Hi,
Not sure if this should be here or in general gassing.
My parents live in a nice estate in Washington (uk) near Newcastle. At the back of the property is a public right of way. My parents and their neighbours are having trouble with young kids (11-18) year olds. They intimidate when your out walking the dogs (refuse to let you past), Throw things at the windows at the back of the houses, vandalise the fences, Drink alochol, unrinate ect...
My farther has tried to deal with this by calling the local police station (he does not dial 999 he dials the local office number), However the police have failed to do anything about this issue.
The local community PC has been out to see my parents and neighbours but still nothing has been done.
Today my farther rang me to say that next door has had a window smashed with a "plactic bullet".
I am wondering if any of the members on here who work for the police could give me some advice so i can pass this on to my parents.

Something needs to be done, as antisocial behaviour is a common problem.
Your Community beat officer hopefully has seen your folks, and told them that as it is on his patch, he will be working something out by way of an 'action plan' to combat this problem.
When I was a community beat officer, this was done by meeting various members of the community, figuring where the problem areas were, and tackling it.
My way of dealing with it was to have the 'extra shift' ie those that are working late lates (until 0200) From when the late shift took over, in effect you have a shift of officers not so much spare, but can be used for whatever....
My plan was to have the crewbus full of the shift of officers, in the area, looking for suitable customers...Others on foot patrol...This happened every day for 2 weeks, numerous arrests were made, it was a proactive, very direct approach, and worked wonders.
The problems no longer exist in that area.
If these people are causing problems, obviously we need proof, any pictures, positive id's or anything that can be pinned on an individual are what is needed. Unfortunately a group causing damage that would not be recognised again is not enough to arrest on suspicion, as no charges would be made.
I understand the problem, the only way to deal with it is to go in hard, sort it out, and make the area a better place. Worked for us anyway.

We had a similar problem with a public footpath next to our drive.
However we managed to get the path shut down on the grounds that it was not a vital right of way and people could enter the area from another route.
That solved a lot of the problems there I can tell you!
Just keep on at the police, council, whatever is needed, get a local petition and make a stand. It's the only way to stop them!

Wehad a similar problem in this area and two things sorted it out.
The local community copper moved and a lad took over who turned out to be my oldest son's ex school mate!
He organised a regular patrol right through the evening and into the night and visited all the little miscreants parents and warned them that he would personally hold them responsible forany further trouble caused; it worked wonders because of the visual presence of the police.
The other thing that worked was that one of the sweet old ladies that was being intimidated traded her Collie in for two Rotweillers; 160 Lbs of black and tan mobile muscle, with teeth!

I live on a private estate in Docklands and because it is the east end of London we have had our fair share of scrotes.
The way we dealt with it was to call our management company and they organised a private security patrol which basically consisted of a couple of sizeable blokes who would stroll around the area. I think that the way it worked was they would try and move people on if they were being a nuisance and if it got too much for them they would call the local BiB who would arrive in their Fun Bus to sort it out. So basically what I am saying is police presence in the area is the way forward.
With respect to your comment of them not moving out of the way when asked - a similar thing happened to me and my brother a while ago - one of them moved into my path just as I was passing so I threw him against the wall - what a cafuffle that caused!!! All mouth no trousers believe me.

could be the estate near concorde (sp?) though? air rifle + plastic pellets + tree to hide in somewhere + starlight scope
one evening of getting randomly shot will make them find somewhere else to hang out and be a problem
obviously im joking, and not being helpful and wouldn't seriously suggest this. honest
