Where did the term "Heath Robinson" come from?

One of the greastest Englishmen to ever live.
Certainly, the greatest children's visual 'imageineer' there ever was.
Thank you Heath, for those sublime childhood moments...
I too had no idea I am ashamed to say.
Sadly, childhood is long past for me but I am now have a strange compulsion to visit Amazon on my daughters behalf.
See what I mean?

Rube Goldberg, in the States.
Your guy had better been doing that from before the 30's or 40's to not be copying (GASP!!) a 'Merkin
cartooning genius!
Dave
Sorry, your Rube guy is the one doing the copying. Heath Robinson started his contraption drawings in 1914 - he did proper drawings for 20 years before that as well!
However, I assume that if you ever make a movie of this sort of art then you will probably say it was Rube that started it anyway!

I thank you for the information!

The real scary ones are those he did IIRC for a book entitled 'How to live in a flat' or similar... where the bed in one flat passes through the wall and under the dining table of the flat next door, and vice versa.
Scary, because a lot of the tower block designers thought he was on to something...
