Just spotted a large nail head in the outer edge pattern on my front tyre. No evidence of the tyre going down. Only spotted as I had parked with full lock. Tyre is still in pretty good shape. Any advice as to whether I should get removed and puncture repaired or leave in the tyre and pretend I never saw it. (could of been there for years as no obvious loss of air). Cheers

If the hole is on the outer 1/3rd of the tyre it cant legally be repaired

Beautiful car...

treat it to a new front tyre, it will thank you for it by not suddenly veering to the right at speed, due to tyre malfunction...

2 Front tires if it means keeping them even.

£300 vs £30000

Even if it hasn't caused a leak now, the head could come off the nail and the shaft could work its way in.

Tyre specialist now.

I had a nail in my X5 tyre. It lost about 10 psi per week, then just completely stopped. Considering it's in the tread I've left it to avoid £400 bill.

Am I being stupid?

As you've already done £17,000 in depreciation , seems silly not to put a new tyre on

Plus the cost of whatever you hit.

Seriously, how can you consider not changing it

OK point taken. It would be interesting to see how many others had nails etc stuck in their tyres which are not be known to them. If I hadnt parked with full lock i would be none the wiser. The moral of the story - check your tyres this weekend if you've got £400 blowing a whole in your pocket.

Had just that happen to me a few years back, unusual in that the nail was a good five inches long and had gone right through the centre of the tread and bent itself into a shallow vee on the middle of the alloy. Didn't know anything until it developed a tendency to deflate a few psi over the course of a week, that got it inspected. Very unusual to pick up one that big but the car's use around that time precluded vandalism. Given the state of the roads it's not getting any better for anything with wide low profile tyres.

Let the tyre guys take the nail out -it'll be easier to locate the area for repair, if approriate -on the other hand, it may not go thru the tyre!!
