reversing light doesn't work

Morning fellow PHs
My reversing ligh doesn't work on my 94 chimaera at all when I put it in reverse, checked the bulb and thats ok. The SH bible states that their is a switch on the gearbox which can stop working or that the cable can corode and come off. How easy is it to get at? is it a take the centre console off from the interior or is at jack the car up and get at it from the underside?

The reversing switch is tucked up into the gearbox gear change mechanism and as this is remote, it may be difficult to get to from the console as the access panels were never scientifically positioned. The alternative is from underneath. Jack the car up and if you are not blessed with tiny hands... remove the exhaust. IT might be a broken lead or something which you can repair with long nose pliers though.

Chcek the obvious things like fuses first.
