Fixed cameras or mobile? How many caught per hour?

I requested these figures from the 'Avon, Somerset and Gloucestershire Safety Camera Partnership' for the total amount of detected speeding offences for 03/04, from Fixed Gatsos and mobile van units in their entire area covered.
They have 98 fixed camera sites (gatsos) and 9 scamera vans operating at 233 locations.
Before I give the figures, take a reasoned guess at what detects the most offences - fixed or mobile?
Also, assuming the mobile vans were operating 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, how many speeders do you reckon they catch per hour per van?
Hope this isn't too boring, it's just I dont believe the figures these partnerships quote, but HOW could they be legitimately disguising them?

I can't answer your queries on how many per hour as there is no upto date data saying how many prosecutions there are per year. The last figures I read about in the local press were for 2002 when there were 10,000+ prosecutions per month being issued in the area, of which about 5% were from road traffic police.
I would expect this ratio to be maintained so that I'd guess 95%+ of prosecutions in Avon & Somerset are based on scamership issued NIPs. I would guess that about 85% of scameraship prosecutions are mobile and 15% static yellow box gatsos.
I'd also guess they have improved their revenue stream by uping the prosecutions in the area to about 13,000 per month.

I would be SERIOUSLY impressed if you managed to get data out of A&S scammers. I asked them for figures last Feb for accidents at a certain camera site - still not got a meaningful answer, and I've been fobbed off every which way, told to talk to all sorts of people, all of whom have referred me back to the scammers. Grrr
I'd guess the vans catch more than the fixed cameras.
If they have 98 fixed sites, that probably means they've got, what, 20 or so actual cameras that they move around between them ?
Given that the cameras are very visible, but the vans are often somewhat hidden, I'm sure they'd catch more people than the gatsos.

On certain sites that I used to park at the mobile camera would run out of film in two hours, thats approximately 200 offenders...and I wasn`t hidden!!!
It's not the hinding that's the problem, it's that they are forward facing and long range, thus you can't slow down for them! will crash said:Glad to hear it

What about 2002 and where are 2004 figures? It can't be that difficult to compile figures for last year.

Interesting guys, your views are the same as mine , I thought camera vans would be detecting far more offences than gatsos, infact Im sure they do but cant prove it!
