Need to do some work on the valve gear that will necessitate turning the motor over by hand.... given some thoughtless sod had completely obstructed access to the crank bolt so I cannot get on that without major strippage, anyone got any bright ideas for an alternative method (plugs out and use the water pump pulley maybe, hoping there will be enough grip in the belt?)

That may work if you really tighten the belt first.

What are you planning?

In gear, jack a back wheel up and turn?

Might be a bit hit 'n miss if you're after very small movements scratchchin

Tensioned fan-belt and using alternator pulley bolt with plugs removed easy wink if you need further tension just push down on the belt with your thumb although you shouldn't IMO

On level ground, put in 2nd gear then handbrake off. Just push or pull the car gently and the engine will turn forwards or backwards as required.

4 wheels on ground, in gear... Use a long bar on a front wheel nut to move the car, so you get fine control...

99% of modification enginerring SHOULD be working out how to IMPROVE access, not just fit things in IMHO wink

Investigating and sorting what I hope will prove to be just another rocker pad failure... developed a top-end clatter over the weekend and a mech's stethoscope indicates it's from the nearside rocker area.

Yeah, yeah - suppose I could have gone with a smaller turbo wink

That would be appalling!

Sounds like time for some roller rockers?

I've had a set in stock for quite a while Peter, for just such an eventuality... have just been trying to avoid an unforced strip-down
