Try this:

1. Click here: http://mappoint.msn.com/DirectionsFind.aspx

2. Then change the "Address in" box to Norway

3. In the first "City" box enter: haugesund

4. Change the End "Address In" box to Norway

5. In the "City" box enter: trondheim

6. Click "Get Directions"

Think this must be the scenic route!

I once asked AutoRoute for the best route from my house to Disneyland, Paris, and it came up with a route that involved taking a ferry to France, hopping back on a ferry to England, then back onto a ferry to France, and then on to the destination.

That added a little bit to the total journey time, I can tell you.

Maybe you'd ticked the option of "Allow for forgetting something"

I once had an AA route planner tell me to do a lap of the M25 when it would of been one junction anti clockwise.

Ive had Multimap tell me to drive off the side of a bridge on the M23 onto the road beneath it.

I think its because its calculating the fastest route not the shortest.

All the places its sending you are major routes and who knows, getting from one town to the other in Norway might be nigh on impossible due to the terrain.

I doubt it, it says 47hours for the journey including 3 overseas crossings. But then it says take a route through the UK, which with delays and cancellations means you can probably add another 48hours to the time

I'd say if you live in Norway, you'd off road anyway

Try setting it to "shortest" - it still takes you to England and then back to Norway.

I'm guessing the map data doesn't include some of the local ferries, so the only way it can see to get from one island to the next is via Newcastle!

Try the shortest route, then! It sends you over to Newcastle on the ferry and then straight back again on the same ferry!

Not quite - you end up on a different island (see my post)

It seems the reverse journey is possible. Perhaps there's some kind of one-way system we don't know about?

Damned Liberals and their traffic schemes to cut congestion.
