Memo: Company Computer Upgrade

As part of the on-going cost reduction exercise in the company and in an effort to reduce expenditure and finally solve the problems with remote access and the ability of IT Support Staff to support out computer network.

The goal is to remove all laptop computers by January 2005 and all desktop computers by March.
Instead everyone will be provided with an Etch-A-Sketch.

There are many sound reasons for doing this:

No sign-in problems
No technical glitches keeping work from being done.
No more wasted time reading and writing emails.
No more time wasted looking for things to buy on e-Bay.
No more worries about power cuts.
Budget savings on Upgrades unparalleled

FAQs from the Etch-A-Sketch Help Desk:

Q: My Etch-A-Sketch has all of these funny little lines all over the screen.
A: Pick it up and shake it.

Q: How do I turn my Etch-A-Sketch off?
A: Pick it up and shake it.

Q: What's the shortcut for Undo?
A: Pick it up and shake it.

Q: How do I create a New Document window?
A: Pick it up and shake it.

Q: How do I set the background and foreground to the same colour?
A: Pick it up and shake it.

Q: What is the proper procedure for rebooting my Etch-A-Sketch?
A: Pick it up and shake it.

Q: How do I delete a document on my Etch-A-Sketch?
A: Pick it up and shake it.

Q: How do I save my Etch-A-Sketch document?
A: Don't shake it.

If you have any further queries, please feel free to contact the IT dept.

It's a good 'un, for sure, but unfortunately I first saw this about 10 years ago!

(What happened to all those threads about things always repeating themselves anyway?)

Sounds like most IT Departments anyway:

User: Hi I have _______ problem

IT Support: Restart your PC

At least in my experience.

Very True, but I work in I.T Support and it does seem to fix 80% of all problems, yet still everyone fails to do it until instructed to by a desktop support guy.

Sigh! Don't you mean it takes away the symptoms of the root cause until the next time it happens?

I give up with the Microsoft generatiom.

I'll get my coat.

Win9x slowing down during the day as it leaks memory. Rebooting is the only way to free up the lost stuff. Can't rewrite the code, so learn how to live with it. Crappy software with excellent marketing
