Hi Guys

I have had some discussions with TVR and current race drivers over the last few days.

We thought it would be useful to start a register of Tuscan Challenge race cars - who owns them, in what spec (whether Challenge spec, track spec, what engine fitted if any, 2 seater?), and if they are being raced, what in...

We would then use a mailing list to keep everyone informed of things of interest to owners - whether it be opportunities to race them, sources of technical advice, or information on spares availability.

For example, we now have a source of new Compomotive wheels at very low prices, and I want to let everyone know.

If you have a Tuscan racer, please would you e mail me with contact details and a few details of the car itself. It would also be helpful if you indicated whether you hold a competition licence.

My e mail address is andy@andyholdenracing.com

Many thanks

Andy

I have a database that can store all that kind of stuff....kind of built for the job really.

It has 1 or 2 pepes in it....like er 26000....oh and every car the TVRCC has ever known about....some 13800 chassis Nos.

So I could help u out there if u like No.6.

I suspect we don't need a database to manage this number of records, but thanks for the offer Chuggs.

I believe TVR made around 60-70 cars in total?

Edited to say - I know of 45 cars currently, including 2 in New Zealand, one in Sweden and one in Holland...

IIRC yes that was the figure that non 27 answered with, whereas Jeremy Smith, 1 of our assistant editors, was told the number was nearer 90 by John Ravenscroft.

Either way I don't have anything like that number listed and their chassis nos are questionable...some are reputed to not even have a number marked anywhere on them.

Chuggs

Maybe it was approx 90 - quite a few will have given their lives in the course of duty ;-)

Presumably you don't have owners matched with chassis numbers anyway though, even if the chassis numbers were reliable?

I'm a TVRCC member, but the club doesn't know that I own 2 Tuscan racers, or what chassis numbers they are. I don't know myself!! Then of course there is the little matter that one of my cars had a new chassis last year, and the other has the old chassis which turns out to be pretty much perfect.... but now which car is which...?

I think the e mail list is really the most useful thing to get out of this.

Regards

Andy

Oh yes we definately do...thats the primary objective....to know "who" had "what".....and now "when" aswell.

No thats right...but I think IIRC we know u owned a Griff.

We only know what the members care to tell us...and that's the problem...possibly coz they don't want to....that's fine, no probs....but I'd like to believe that it has more to do with the method that we use to collect the info.

I've finished redesigning the database now and I hope it will be able to store just about anything we care to throw @ it. The next step is to look @ improving the way the club gathers the info, and hopefully then have a lot more member/register communication....both in and out.

The history always moves with the chassis...so u would say both cars were rebodied...1 had the others' body and one had a new chassis and was then rebodied.

And my first technical question for the esteemed members of the mailing list would be "whats the best way of getting the roll cage out, assuming you want to put it back in again?".

Obvious route would seem to be to grind off the welds on the 'collars' on the front-to-back tubes, remove the driver's door bar and spit the cage front to back. Advantage is putting it back in would be the same 'as original'. Lots and lots of grinding/filing though.

Plan B - it looks like if the rear stuts are removed, there might just be enough room to lift it out. Not keen to take off the struts if it doesn't aid removal. Anyone tried? Obviously, strugs then get welded back on when cage goes back.

Plan C is just to cut the cage were the tubes butt on to the rear 'hoop' behind the drivers seat. Easy to get the cage out, but problems welding it back together in situ as no access to the 'outside' of the welds unless I make big holes in the body.

...and Plan D is to leave the cage intact and cut big chunks out the body. I'm guessing if I cut a 'slot' either site behind the front mounts in the footwells it would allow the cage to 'drop', and with a couple of slots in the bootlid it might lift out. Advanatage of this is my glassing is better than my welding , but I don't want to cut out big chunks if it doesn't help the cage out.

Advice, suggestions etc all gratefully received
