Had my first TVR 'moment' tonight. Crap day at work. Good idea no 1. Go for a hoon to clear head. Problems : Wetish, and dark. Good idea no 2. See empty stretch of B road and decide to floor it. Problems : Accl pedal gets stuck behind mat and when I clutch down to change gear, bounces off rev limiter until I can stop the engine!

Question: Is there such a thing as a boring drive in a TVR?

I HATE it when that happens, I`ve taken to fully pressing down the pedal a few times before I fire her up until I`m sure it won't get stuck.

This happened to me the first time I had the chance to floor it (day after I bought it).

I remember thinking "wow, doesn't the engine sound great at high revs" and "oh s**t! I'm about to die" both at the same time!

Mine did this when the mat slipped forward slightly. After I'd had a change of underwear and worked out what caused the problem I decided it was never going to happen again. Either the mat goes, or I have to find some reliable way to stop it slipping. The mat is hanging up in the garage ...

just a thought ... what about self adhesive velcro? the hook side of the velcro stuck to the underside of the mat might stop it sliding forwards

What mat are we talking about, the carpeted mat, or the plastic mat which tends to slide forwards over time (which is why I keep it in the boot)

I have custom made mats from Autostyle, they come with a fixing pin and my mats never move. Might be worth investing in a pair to save hairy moments like these!! Or if it adds to the fun, never mind

This is why type approved cars have locating pins for the mats. Its a very basic safety feature that requires a huge development testing & prototyping program that TVR could never afford.

As one of their highly self funded test engineers, I resemble that remark!

As it happens, my mats do have locating pins, they just don't stay located! Am going to try the 'Velcro' option, if that fails - mats are out!

I'd back up what V8Smith said about the mats from Autostyle. I have a set, and so far no slippage. Reasonable prices too.
