Slow to return to tick over

The tvr seems to have developed a minor but alittle annoying issue, start the car and tickover is fine just above 900rpm but drive it and stop at a junction it does not return to tick over immediately, it stays at 1400rpm for a few seconds, it's just abit annoying and the only issue with the car. I am planning on putting up for sale next weekend so would like to get it sorted. I have not done the trick with elongating the holes in the part that controls the butterfly and I also haven't cleaned the stepper motor, it's at the garage being moted at the minute so I can't get to it but would like to have the answer for when I get it back.

Hi Rob, I would say the most likely culprit is the stepper motor and it only takes a few minutes to clean, might also be worth checking throttle cable for smoothness of action. Just as an aside, if on a track day etc. this issue might actually be of assistance when braking hard and changing down simultaneously for a bend as it may replicate the heel & toe technique to a certain extent.

Exactly the same as mine today.

Cleaned and polished the car then went for a drive and exactly same symptoms for me,haven't been using the car as much as i usually do and hay presto little niggle appears.

Stepper motor was going to be my first thing to clean,but am going for a longer drive down to Shelsley Walsh tomorrow so that might clear it. Failing that I'm going to clean the stepper.

Mine seems to hold up a little, i thought i read it was an ecu thing to keep revs up between changes etc.
Certainly seems like it holds up until the car stops moving.

If you download Steve Heaths ECUmate manual, it goes in depth about the idle control, and possible reasons for the slow drop in speed. Apart from a sticky stepper, a high idle can be the throttle pot out of adjustment, or an errant speed signal form TVRs speedo correction unit found under the dash.

During and after my run out today mine seems to of cleared didn't happen at all.

I will still give the stepper on mine a clean as a precaution.
