So, as the weather has improved, I'm wondering what track days Cayman and Boxster GTS (even prospective GT4 members) will be attending this year?

I plan to run my CGTS out at Silverstone next month, with not much experince on track, I will be going carefully within my limits in my new pride and joy, but hopefully looking forward to seeing some other PH's out there this season in there GTS's.

Planning to run it factory standard for the first time out, until the rubber is gone and then may look at different rubber options.

Any other tips...apart from the obvious fluids etc.. specifically for a 981 or GTS someone has already had a go with this year on a track

Thanks Cmoose, yeah I know a geo setup would be recommended, but as you say want to avoid the OPC headache with anything more. Just wondered if there was any fisher price advice for the 981 on track. My Gen 1 was looked after by paragon, but this is a different beast for me tech wise.

You heading out this year to the tarmac?

I'm going to be out in my Cayman R this year. I'm having a couple of mods done and thinking about getting some RSS LCAs. Will definitely do Brands GP and possibly Snetterton 300. Would love to try Oulton Park too but it's a bit of a trek and castle coombe too!

Invest in some instruction. It'll make by far the biggest difference to your performance and, importantly, enjoyment, than anything else you could throw money at at this stage. It'll also improve your performance in any and every car you ever take on track too.

I watched with intent your thread, re the GT4 vs R mods. How is the project going? all ready for the summer? I might do coombe too later this year smile

If that's aimed at me - thanks for the advice. But for your information I already spend plenty of money on instruction, it's not something that people are particularly interested in reading on a car forum unless they are after getting instruction themselves. In any case, I want to mod my car, which is also enjoyable and makes the car personal to me.

It'll start the initial work in April, I'm really looking forward to it. Still doing plenty of research though!

good man, i bet. I wish I was that brave the R is already an amazing car. Now you know the GT4 stats are you still happy you made the right choice?

I think that the GT4 will be the better car, I just don't think Porsche Motorsport will mess it up. However, cost to change into my ideal spec is £40k+. And for me to spend that much, it would need to be perfect, for me the engine would need some of Mr Preuniger's team's magic. If they make a GT4RS, I'm in! Also, the R is such a sweet car, the steering is just so good. My initial mods will concentrate on the few issues I think that the car has as standard, namely, gear change, ECU flat spot and brake pedal feel. I'm hoping that these changes will make the car feel really good. Then I'll wait a while, get used to those and think about whether I should do some more. If I decide more is sensible, I'll do some suspension mods next and then maybe tyres. After that I'll probably leave it. I don't want to ruin the basic brilliance of the car.

Totally, agree Cmoose. R is an absolute bargain compared to the GT4 too!

The most important thing you can do is keep an eye on your tyre pressures and adjust them after a few laps as the tyres heat up. Rule of thumb I use is when you come in to the garage after a run, drop the tyre pressure to standard road pressures while they are still hot.

This works well on my GT3 and I usually have to let a significant amount of air out of them. Take a foot pump so you can re-inflate them at the end of the day for the drive home (once they have cooled obviously)

The "standard pressures when hot" rule works well on my GT3 (the rears in particular get very hot) but perhaps you could get some more specific advice for a CGTS.

If you dont have much track experience then the other thing I would recommend is doing a proper cool down lap before coming in to the pits to cool your brakes after each run on track. If you are running standard pads and discs these will get very hot and can easily be damaged. If you start getting vibration when braking then do some gentle laps (keeping out of everyones way) to cool them down.

enjoy your 3 laps before the tyres go off.

cars if driven even at 60 % will only last a few laps with oem camber settings and GTS you are stuck with not much adjustments.

I dont believe this for a moment! I have no experince with a P-zero tyre (as this came standard on my GTS) but i would amazed if that was the case.

This is only an issue if you dont adjust the tyre pressures! The tyres dont "go off" the overhead and the pressures go to high reducing contact patch. Drop the pressures and they will be fine. Leave them "high" and you will simply destroy the tyres. Simples.

Relax, it wasn't aimed at you, it was a general comment (so I suppose could be seen as loosely aimed at the OP being as he started the thread). However, whether "people" are interested in hearing about it or not is up to them to decide, surely?

Enjoy whatever mods you're planning. smile

Silverstone is quite a wide circuit, and its hard on a first visit to pick up the brake, and turn in point and apex.your car will be fine standard, its very capable on track as it is.

Learn the line in the morning,go quicker after dinner.Tyres I ran my Cayman S tyres 32lb front 34lb rear hot

Plenty of vids on youtube to watch for lines.

Can't believe the Cayman gets ahead of the GTR at one point, good effort that.

You see some odd things at track days. I remember taking our old JCW convertible to Rockingham a few years back, still had the kids' car seats in the back. After coming down the long straight (on the banking) there's a hairpin and I could see an M400 coming, so naturally, I moved over to let it past whilst still keeping my foot in. To my immense surprise I didn't actually see him again until the long back straight.
