Owned the same one for 15 years now. At one stage had two. Very expensive to get into now but utterly sublime if you find a good one. To me it's the perfect blend of classic, last of the air cooled, unique engine but with a reasonably modern car so very usable and very forgiving.
Values are now very high but it is the rarest of the air cooled RS's by some margin. I cannot bring myself to sell mine despite offers which says a lot.

If you can, try a 964 RS as well. The contrasts with a 993 RS are interesting.
At the risk of swimming against the tide ...... The above is sage advice. For all the BS about the 993 being the last/best of the aircooled cars, I tend to disagree. Is the 993 better built than the 964 ? I'm not convinced, and as the C2/4 993 market seems to indicate, the 993 if anything has fallen out of favour over the past 18 months or so.Granted the 993 has a tidy rear end, but the front is both unconvincing and unresolved when compared with the "proper" 911 wings fitted to the earlier car (albeit the fitment of the CS front spoiler/splitters improved the 993 RS front end drastically)
Whilst the 993's more sophisticated rear suspension may improve things from a NVH perspective, I didn't think my 993 RS was as an enjoyable steer as the several 964 RS's I've owned.
The 964 RS is much more honest car, the lack of power steering and the cruder rear suspension make for a more seat of the pants driving experience, so much so that I never really enjoyed driving the 993 in the wet, but always relished driving the 964 RS in the same conditions.
And for all the plaudits made regarding the 3.8 VR engine, it never really impressed that much, once again I prefer the sound (and more honest power delivery) of a de-catted, Cup piped and re-mapped 964 RS. Done properly, a 964 should produce 285hp all day, whereas I never really felt the 3.8 lump produced the 300hp the factory credited it with.
The 993 RS has rarity on its side, but little more IMO.
Have to admit, it was a pretty looking thing ......

The 993 RS was the stunning looking lady who never really performed in the sack, the 964 RS slightly less glamorous , but a lot more fun ......

& pretty more so with the Cup wings ( i.e make-up). 964RS is unpretentious & gets on with the job at hand.

Does anyone on here have a 993 RS? I have been looking for some time now and I am still undecided, would be keen to hear from some who own and drive the cars.
I couldn't afford one so I built my own.

The ultimate for me. Not only the longest i've had any car but probably the most pleasurable car i've ever driven.
A perfect planetary alignment of analogue agriculturalism + 1990's modernity.
Move one step forward to the 996 GT3 (I have one of those too) and you gain much dynamically but lose so much of the "hand in the machine" magic.
Move one step backward and what you gain in simplicity and intimacy you lose in modernity and of course looks ! Who wants what looks like a 964 with just a different set of mirrors for cryin out loud !!!!
The 993RS is THE ONE !
Was there a club sport evolution of 993 RS with 400 bhp guys? I've heard rumours there were a few with Carillo rods, titanium valves, slide valve injection and programmable engine management. Output was in excess of 400bhp, adjustable Bilstein dampers and uprated ABS with four piston Brembo calipers having been utilised. An open competition exhaust with quick-change muffler and twin oil coolers in the front wings too.
Is this what the mega expensive black 993 RS is at JZM or is it an "ordinary" RS if you can ever call a 993 RS ordinary ?!

Thanks everyone for the view point. Its interesting to get the different take on the car.
I have been looking fairly hard for sometime and continue to watch the prices increase, which is a nightmare.
Currently I have a 993 C2S and 993 Turbo, love the C2S not totally taken by the Turbo. Looking to move both on to get into the RS. The problem is there are very few cars (none) in Scotland for me to try. Short of jumping on a plane I am feeling about in the dark a bit.

400BHP is a heady output for a 3.8 in the 90's. Extremely unlikely. The 993 Cup didnt make anywhere near that and I think that the RSR race car didn't either. The ultra rare version is the RS Clubsport.
I really would recommend that you drive a 964RS also. Very nice little car. I have a 993 Clubsport plus a bit spec car and drove a 964 at Silverstone recently. If you asked me to choose the better car, I'd find it a lot more difficult than I thought I would. For all of the hype, the rear suspension upgrades to the 993 are minimal at best.
I was so impressed with the 964 that I found a good non sunroof example and am building it up to my spec now.
Also, why do you want an RS? The joy of the 993 and 964 is that it is relatively easy to build up a good C2 to RS spec. All of the bits are availiable and you can build one to your spec at a fraction of the purchase price of the original. On saying that, it is difficult to find a good donor car.

The car you are probably refering to is the rsr cup, late build and uber rare,22 cars made.not quite what you are qouting, some were 380 bhp in ex factory form.Andial in the usa produced some upgrades including slides and programable and realising 400 plus bhp. They even tried titanuim brake discs, which were quickly banned.
The 964 is a great car but ugly compared to the 993,and bit of a stop gap car!!😄
