First Proper Run Out Of The Year

Had the first proper blow-the-cobwebs-out run of the year yesterday. Up to North Wales, Evo Triangle, Ffestiniog, Bala, bit of late breakfast and then home.

Still a bit greasy first thing in the morning but still so worth it.

Anyone else manage to get out this weekend?

Jackwood, I'm heading to Angelsey from London in a few weeks and want to take a fun route rather than the quickest. If you are local, can you recommend a good route through?

Or anyone else for that matter.

First decent run of the year for me too. Took the 996TT out for a good early morning 250 mile run into South Wales yesterday. Planning on taking the GT3 out for a run next weekend.

Absolutely! How long do you want to make the detour? As Keep It Lit said, you can go up the A5 and then turn off once into Wales, or if you want to make a full day of it, the. You can scoot across the M4 into South Wales and then take the roads up through central Wales to the north.

Let me know which way you are thinking of doing it and I'll point you at some good roads.

You're down in Hereford? Where about as? We've got a place between Ledbury and Hereford. Beautiful part of the world. Don't see many decent motors down there though. Lots of tractors though

Cheers guys. I think I will go M54 - A5 on the way up on the Friday. Then its Angelsey track day Saturday and back Sunday all the way through Wales to make Cheltenham area that evening. Should be a good tour!

If there are any particular favourite stretches, much appreciate the tips

Coming from the M54 - you have got to go via the B4391 to Bala.

Head south from the A5 when you get to Oswestry onto the A483, turn out onto the B4396 -> B4391.

Just be careful on the B4396 as you come into the 30 zone in Bala. There Bwas a scamera van parked up catching people coming into town at the weekend.

Great set of roads though, and the ones I would recommend first.

The B5105 from the A5 to Ruthin is also worth a detour for.


cmoose, I know what you mean. Those meet up for a run days can be a bit dry. Think it all comes down to who you know in the group and how you run together.

But I agree. A dawn run with somewhere to be in a certain time can be magical in any car given the right (deserted) country roads.

Organised trips can be a bit hit or miss but it really does depend on who you are with. I wanted to do the Scotland trip that was being set up on this forum but work commitments meant I couldn't make it.

Did a trip a while back with some strangers from a forum and their driving was so st it ruined the trip for me. Proper shocking behaviour!

Good run out, South London, Rhoedean Cafe, Brighton, Worthing and Goodwood. Golf R x 2, Scooby 07 Prodrive 480 bhp, and my GT3 996.2. Totally blown away how bloody quick them new Golfs are.

cmoose, have you been on any of the trips organised by petrolheadnirvana? They are really enjoyable. A destination, a plan, a bunch of people all there for the great roads. Been on several with them now, enjoyed every one!

Will you let it drop ????? I've apologised for my driving that day on numerous occasions !!!!! As I told you, I was having an incredibly bad day, I brushed my teeth with haemorrhoid cream, tripped over the cat, used Mr Sheen as hairspray and put salt on my cereal.

To add insult to injury, and because I was running late, I forgot to disconnect the battery conditioner from the car before reversing it out of the garage. Whilst that ripped the socket off the wall and fused all the power to the house, it was nothing compared to the damage wreaked on the back end of the car when I realised I hadn't opened the garage door before trying to reverse the car out.

Several of which consider the journey from down Sarf to oop North rather too trying and would thus like to have their cars "shipped" up there and back if at all possible. Pass me another canape will you my dear fellow ....
