Just wondered has anyone ever repainted a power amp casing? I have a Rotel amp, stain black which is badly scratched so its in need of a repaint - I think the top casing is easy, its the front panel / facia with lettering etc that I need to think more about.

Would powder coating work?

Any top tips appreciated

thanks

Paul

You could keep an eye on eBay for someone selling the same amp, blown 'Spares or repair'. Might pick one up for small money.
Then transfer over the better condition casing?

That hasn't really answered your question has it!?

Ed China is always giving stuff a spray with Satin Black on Wheeler Dealers. I'd have thought it would be fine on an amp casing.

I wouldnt powder coat as it tends to be quite thick. Cant see why normal paint wouldnt do the trick if properly prepared. Does the front get hot?

The hardest part will be either masking it up, or taking the panel off without damaging any connectors. If you aren't very handy with electronics you may end up breaking it, but probably only if you are really clumsy.

For lettering, you could use 'Letraset' which I noticed in WHSmiths recently, as I was surprised to see it is still available.

I might have a go myself but on a pre amp, as I've just picked one up, but the pre amp is silver (of course the power amp is black).
