Chaps.

Tomorrow I am planning to buy a 996 from Maranello.

Has a Porsche warranty. How robust will this be?

Thanks

Make sure you ask Porsche if they will honour the warranty - and get it in writing.

Sorry to put a spanner in the works but a friend of mine bought a car from a BMW dealer, with porsche warranty. The car went wrong big time. Porsche refused to honour the warranty because it had been to another franchised dealer. Apparently it would have been okay if it had gone thru an independent dealer!

Cheers and good luck

Ajit.

Check to see if the car was inspected by the OPC who issued the warranty. If it has the Porsche paperwork and booklet then there is no problem. You could also get the warranty number from the booklet and give the number in the back a call and see what they say.

I wish there was some real absolute clarity on this.
Surely if the car is under Porsche 2 year warranty then the warranty is OK regardless of where its bought ? The only grey area is if the Ferrari/BMW etc dealer selling the Porsche serviced it, then I can imagine the warranty would be void. If they havn't (ie just taken it in as px then sold it on) then surely the warranty is OK ?
Now if the car is over 2 years & has a "bolt on" Porsche warranty then it would have needed to be checked by an OPC then had a Porsche warranty put on the car. Again unless the non porsche dealer serviced the car then that warranty will be OK too ?

I had a C4S that developed a RMS failure. The car was just under 2 years old & I had bought it from an independant Porsche specialist (who had never serviced it - an OPC had serviced it)
Porsche refused to fix it under warranty, saying that an independant had sold it to me.......that was until I kicked off in front of the warranty guy, much heated debate later they backed down & fixed it FOC.

EU law now states that you can have any car serviced anywhere as long as they are VAT registered & this does not affect your manufacturers warranty rights......am I right here ?

My friend who had the problem with his warranty claim ended up with no fix from Porsche. They refused to honour the warranty because it had been sold thru a franchised Porsche dealer.

He was a long standing and frequent and loyal customer at his local OPC - letters went all the way up as far as Andy Goss, thru the Porsche club etc etc.

The bottom line was that tehy would honour warranty if bought privately, from an OPC or from an independent but NOT, if from a franchised dealer.

Get it in writing from the OPC if you want to be sure.

Cheers

Ajit.

It quite clearly says in the warranty booklet that the warranty is null and void if the car passes through the hands of any car dealer in the period of cover.
We sadly have to throw away lots of them when we buy cars with extended warranties.
Bought a 996 cab yesterday of a chap who serviced his car the day before at afn chiswick and got a £780 extended warranty.
Straight into the bin unfortunately

Asuming that the car doesn't require any work due it it's recent service and that you don't stamp any service booklet, how would an OPC know it's been through the hands of a dealer?

Blimey! That's a shame!

Far be it from me to suggest a "deal" wherein the new owner, the old owner and the dealer all benefit - oh no - couldn't do that...

I suspect any shenanigans is just far too hard to arrange in reality.

Its a bit mean of Porsche, though.

I review your stock-list from time to time. Should I consider chopping in my current Porsche for one of your fine specimins I shall bear in mind that the warranty isn't worth anything to you.

I take it *you* then have to spend out on a warranty from a third party for your customers! What a pain!
