Thought I would ask the knowledgeable folk around here about my sons Mondeo. It is a 2006 TDCI 130.

Yesterday he said the clutch pedal became very slack and had to be lifted up with his foot. Also the clutch is not disengaging. The car can be put in any gear and the engine started without touching the clutch, so therefor no drive neither.

Does this sound like DMF failure.

Sounds like slave cylinder problems!

That was my first thought. But would a bust slave cylinder break in such a way to leave pressure on the release bearing, acting as if the pedal is pushed down?

Either way, its gearbox out time I guess

Sounds like a slave cylinder failure and like you say, is a box out job. Depends on the mileage, but I would guesstimate, it will need a clutch and dmf at the same time.
