Hi all , had her 4 wheel tracked at the weekend, tracking now ok 20 minutes toe in, so 10 minutes each side, the rear camber should be 1/2 to 1 degree negative, mine is more like zero, but told that car will have all tyre tread in contact with road on the straight, but less round corners, if 3/4 degree negative you get the most tyre contact when cornering. My offside front camber is also positive 13 minutes should be 45 minutes negative, any idea how and how much shim to apply to correct this, any comments appreciated, regarding best set up

Sorry should have said, this was quick a tracking adjustment and printout of current geometry, have to go back another day when not so busy and when I have checked/ changed any bushes and loosened off the rear camber adjusters. Still need to research how to adjust camber on the front?

Camber at the front is easy. Slacken off the two long bolts that attach the top swivel to the top wishbone and the whole hub unit slides in or out on elongated holes.

You will see a spacer plate at the joint. Generally this goes to the front giving you the correct caster angle.
Some cars have been known to have two thinner ones, one on each side iirc.

You will do yourself a favour by ensuring all bolts undo and parts move prior to having the geo set. The rear lower wishbone adjusters can be a right barsteward and often removing them to work with a large vice is the only way!!

1. Chimaeras are very sensitive to incorrect alignment settings
2. The amount of camber you apply depends on your use of the car - you will want more negative camber if you are track daying the car than if you are Sunday cruising.
3. May I advise you to get it done properly by someone with the proper 4-wheel Hunter machine, the correct settings and TVR knowledge? Should be the best £90 you have spent on the car. Not a job to have done half cock. Even Phazed himself, a great and knowledgeable DIYer, has had his car properly aligned on the Hunter equipment.

That's because the ability to put up shelves is absolutely no use when aligning wheels wink

what he said!

The rear adjustors are a bugger if they're seized tight. lots of easing oil will help but i still resorted to using a blow torch to free mine up, and removing the wishbones to get better purchase

Anybody know if there are any Hunter 4-wheel tracking machines in the South West, i.e. Somerset/Wiltshire?

I am not from your area. I called Neil Garner to ask, but they use eye and string it would seem.

These guys may possibly be worth a call?

What you need is someone who has the equipment AND the knowledge of TVRs IMHO

No we don't have a hunter but use the same very accurate method I used on f1 cars.... and still use on all our race and road cars. Not set up by eye!!! Always happy to help.

Nothing wrong with string and a steel rule when you know what you're doing, obviously it'll only give you toe, you then need a caster/camber gauge for everything else. But it's not that easy for your normal DIYer. It's also a lot slower than clamping on 4 lasers which is why not many places do it.
Doesn't stop these guys doing it though.....
