is there any dev plans for a more mobile friendly forums area?
Just curious, the rest of the site is fairly responsive but I find navigating the forums on my phone a bit of a mission.

Yes, we are working on a new skin that will become the default across the forums - you can try it out as we improve it under My Preferences, and change your skin to beta2

There are continual improvements to it going on, and some pages that are not complete yet - but the plan is to sort over the next 4 weeks.

Ew. Beta2 doesn't seem to work in Chrome on my Galaxy S4 - I get the desktop layout instead.

I've tried logging out and back in again, but no change. The front page is the mobile version though.

However, it displays the mobile version using the Samsung browser. Very odd - perhaps something not quite right in your browser detection routines?

The mobile and beta2 skins are fine on mobile but I really don't like them on desktop.
It's not just big blue being familiar - the spacing and white space just jars badly. Hopefully will be sorted soon.

Re: Chrome on Samsung, try resting the phones browser cache. The chrome mobile browser caches like nothing I have ever seen before!

i get the same thing actually on my note in incognito. Are the devices detected via headers or is it triggered by screen size?

switching them out using if() statements on the body size is the chicken dinner

Must be screen size I think. On my N9 I get mobile in portrait and desktop in landscape.

Didn't work - cleared all cookies for pistonheads.com but still not displaying properly. Weirdly, does work in incognito mode.

Think perhaps we need a link to switch between desktop and mobile layouts.

There is a little bit of a cookie view preferences that is affecting some.

The rules for detecting whether to show mobile or desktop version are:

• Does the user have DisplayPrefPH? (If Desktop then only show desktop version)
• Width of browser (>768px show desktop version)
• Device detection (if mobile phone show mobile - as judged by the device header sent to the site)

We are thinking about getting rid of the DisplayPrefPH cookie - it causes headaches in development, but it depends if there is still a case to see the site using the desktop view on a mobile (or at least the option to).

So if you are using the Beta2 or Mobile (beta) skins and you see desktop all the time (or mobile view on desktop for some pages)

We are working on this at the moment, and a few tweaks to the desktop view of this skin.
