Abandoned/Stolen Van
Discussion
Hi Guys
bit of weird one today as we have a van parked up in our work car park since Sunday morning a white Merc Vito which has been unlocked. Its a builders van with all the tools in the back even the back door wasn't fully shut just ajar
We just had our local force out who didn't seem that bothered as it did not show as stolen on the system. they did find a number of someone who's name and number was written on a bit of card in the windscreen who denied all knowledge of it. And have advised us that if its still there end of the week we can have it removed.

So why did the police do that if it a civil matter and they could have just as easily got the owners details and contacted them. Also as the doors were not locked and the rear door ajar they then would also have stopped a potential crime in the future with the theft of the tools and possibly the vehicle as well.
Lazy policing.

I Would take all valuables from it and store them, leave a note on the dash advising owner . Having had a couple of van loads of tools knicked over the years, I would appreciate the effort if it was mine.
This is a good plan, just because the cops can't make the effort to contact the owner does not mean it's not stolen/lost.roofer said:

I like this
just make sure the builders don't turn up though,eh? Might be a tad awkward if they don't believe yourallycross said:

Me and my boss did this and left a note. With his and my number. But we will have to move it tomorrow by forks as we have 3 artics that need reverse through for our deliverys lucky we have some old matress in our warehouse we can prevent damage from. Must admit I was very suprised at the police attitude to it seem like they didn't want to know.

Get used to it. It's only going to get worse as the numbers of frontline cops drop. Re-active policing will be the best you can hope for. Just a thought, it could be stolen but the owner is away from home & won't know until they get back? Although I'm a bit stumped at why the tools haven't been taken.
This what stumped us there was North of 5k worth of tools in there all same make, but we will see what happens now. Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
