A longer route home
Discussion
Following the race weekend, we are planning to have a couple of extra nights before catching the ferry on Wednesday afternoon.
We plan on having a night in Honfleur, but really not familiar with the area and would like another night somewhere else along the coast, perhaps a little closer to Le Mans.
Any suggestions would be great thanks.

What MadMAc said. But I was never too impressed with Saint Jean de Monts but preferred the next villages, St Hillaire de Riez, S Gillies Croix de Vie or La Sables D'Olonne.
Lovely area. It's been a while. Must go back one day.
La Sables are quite a long way south west of Le Mans but its a nice place. What MadMAc said. But I was never too impressed with Saint Jean de Monts but preferred the next villages, St Hillaire de Riez, S Gillies Croix de Vie or La Sables D'Olonne.

We usually go via St Malon and drive along the cvost for a while, there are some nice spots.
You could go further afield, this year we catch the ferry to Santander, cross over the Pyrenees and drive up through the Dordogne and the Loire. No auto routes en route

I generally have a few extra days after the race coming back via Bayeux ( Municipal Camping ) and Honfleur ( The Phare campsite ) - both recommended.
The Bayeux site gives a free swim at the indoor pool next door.
The Phare is 5 mins walk from the centre of town by the harbour or 5 mins by car in the other direction for a spot of beach time. 49deg 25'30 N 0deg 13'33E
Have done it for the last few years to extend my break to the following weekend and on my final day blast up the coast for the 5.00pm afternoon ferry at Dieppe preceded by a big bowl of moules and a bucket of muscadet.
That reminds me - must get on the phone tomorrow and book my crossing dates.
Last year I intentionally missed my boat and headed to the west coast for a couple of days and when I got back to the ferry I had to pay a single( about £90 ) although the babe on the desk said if I'd rung through she would have changed the dates on my booking for no charge. Lesson learnt for 2015.
See you all there...
