Mk1 Audi TT 225 Coupe - My new station shed
Discussion
After an unsuccessful attempt to mate my previous Saab 9-3 with a MX5, i needed new set of cheap wheels to get me to the station and back. Not wanting anything too drab and boring, the budget was set at what I hoped the Insurance would pay out and off i went. After looking at a few dogs, mis-described cars, lots of HPI warnings and plainly idiotic dealers I found my new wheels. In my 25yrs of driving and 48 previous cars, this is my first Audi!
2002 Audi TT 1.8T 225 Coupe - full service history and most importantly a full service in January and the cambelt and water pump done in December - bills of nearly £2k in the last few months. It was better than described in the ad with only a small patch of lacquer peel on the front arch. Comes with 18" wheels with decent tyres, lots of tread, drilled and grooved discs, K&N cone filter and a very confusing Kenwood flip out screen stereo with digital TV, Nav, DAB, DVD, Bluetooth etc which seems a bit excessive for my tastes. I would like to swap it out for a standard Audi CD/Phone headunit but don't have the knowledge to extract all the bits/cables from the car!
Drives very well and feels pretty quick compared to the Saab but still slower than my old 645, great grip of course, K&N gives some woosh and dump valve sounds for a bit of fun. Everything works as it should and most importantly it got the thumbs up from my friend at SJB Autotech Audi/VW Specialists.
A couple of quick photos after its first clean - will try and get some more later

that was the problem I had - paid £2250 for it - the FSH, recent cambelt and service combined with the decent condition sold it to me - its not showroom condition, but it looks respectable and hopefully should be reliable
Black wheels weren't my 1st choice but i can't be bothered to have them refurbed

Full service in January was £587
In dec 14 engine mount broke so had to strip out, replace etc and at same time they did Cambelt, water pump, etc, etc. that bill was best part of £1400.
It also has a fully stamped book to back up with another 2x cambelt's in its lifetime.
I'm working on the theory that it's unlikely to throw up those bills again in the next few months (fingers crossed, touch wood, etc)
After seeing a few other TT's with either no history, big chunks missing or the dealer favourite of describing full service history but last service was in 2011! I decided it was worth the risk. I was watching another more local car With 128k miles but more paint damage and only half leather on ebay. That went for £2100 but hadn't had a cambelt since 81k so I would have had to pay another £500 or so to have that done.
Calling on ph audi beards - I noticed that my car has a black honeycomb grille insert around the rear exhausts - however most other cars I've seen have smooth, body coloured panels - any idea why?

I'm only speculating but I imagine the cam belt/water pump is around £1000. Add in a service and tyres and you've got your bill. In theory that should be it for a while. It's just that sometimes these bills spread out, or come at once.
Nice car for the price OP.
Surely it's not that much! My old A8 had a cambelt, waterpump and thermostat job just before I got it and that was a sub £1000 bill. And that involved the use of a special trolley to take the front end of the car off just to get to the workings!Nice car for the price OP.

What was the £2k's worth of bills in recent months for?
That would put me off buying one tbh - a 2 grand car that's capable of throwing 2 grands worth of bills at me in a few months?
Sod that!
I'm not being arsey here but isn't any £2000 car capable of that though, if it's maintained properly. That would put me off buying one tbh - a 2 grand car that's capable of throwing 2 grands worth of bills at me in a few months?

I've just bought an E36 that's had around £8000 spent in the last 4 years. Paid £2800 for it. Did it put me off? Did it heck, I jumped at it.
It's had everything I'd want to do to one and more.
Good buy that though OP, should be reasonably trouble free now.
