There are Not Work Safe links and adverts on that page, but the video is fine to watch.

I like the reply:

obviously does not know how to ride a bike... or at least that you do not break with your first wheel first.... not sure how they work, but i am assuming its like a bike...

Hmm at the risk of being riddiculed and critisised... I always use the front brake ... 99% of the time, I only use the front brake. The rear brakes even on my humble africa twin are so vicious, touching then results in locking the front wheel.
Funny, I was taught too that the rear brake was only for slow manouvers, whilst the more capable fronts were used to shed the speed.

I cannot do a stoppie because I have just over 4 inches of suspension travel at the front, and 6 at the rear.

and before anyone picks me up on the spelling .. Yes I now its crap !

Theres nothing wrong with your speeling!

And I am a great believer in not using your back brake. Under heavy breaking there is a weight shift to the front wheels, so applying the back brake will cause skipping, and ive seen many riders fall off because of it.

However when you stop using the black-stuff, and start green laning, the front is not a good option, I dont advocate the back brake either...unless you are heading towards something solid??? but rather get on the gas.

ahh yes, done a fair bit of green laning, even took the big Africa Twin over salisbury plain. Front wheel skids are not fery funny .. back brake definatly the one to use then

I haven't ridden motorbikes but have done a lot of downhill Mountain Biking and i ALWAYS used the front brake more. Shifts the weight forward for more traction in corners. On my main bike i had a 185mm 4pot on the front, compared to a 2pot 165mm disc at the back.

Scary vid though...

I'm no expert but it looked to me as if he was trying to do a stoppie and got it wrong. Doesn't follow that he's an idiot and doesn't know how to use the brakes. Might not have ben the smartest decision in the world to try such a difficult and dangerous manoeuver, but at the end of the day it's his call.

but amazing how 'undamaged' the bike looks after he picks it up.

Yep. Looks that way to me too. I reckon he had too much speed for the distance to the camera and rushed the stoppie with somewhat with disastrous consequences. Ouch.

Re, the front brake. I use the front way more than the rear. On the track I barely use the rear brake at all 'cos usually my head is consumed with trying to stop the front wheel from locking and I know that if I introduce the rear I'll lose concentration on the front which is much more important to me.

And on the Italian bikes I've owned, the rear brake was pretty much just for show, anyway.

Oh the rear brake on the Ducati is next to useless, having said that I can't remeber when I last tried it

exactly, I only use the back brake when going very slowly around town and it is easier when using clutch control to filter, but always have one finger over the front brake.

My rear brake lever is, as far as I know, only used for resting your toes on.....

Whilst out at the Ring many years ago, the hose on my ZX6 fractured. I drained the fluid out and then refused to go back out!

Being asked how many times i actually used it? and replying well never, i then tentatively went out. It wasn’t long before I was soon going just as fast

Unless you are at the skill of Rossi or thereabouts and you can use the back brake to back the bike into corners, then it really plays very little part.
