Just ordered a pair of new/refurbished front calipers for my e36 evo from a reputable seller on ebay. The calipers are blasted, refinished with all new pistons, seals, etc and i've paid a reasonable price for them.

They turned up today and anti rattle clips aren't included, that's a no brainer so contacted them about it.

I've also told them i'm not happy with the calipers as one has the ///M logo stamped in it as the old ones do (this is clearly visible with the wheels on) but the other doesn't. It's the same size, casting, weight, etc but just has a standard part number on it.

Now, i know the e36 evo isn't the most valuable car on the road, but i've paid the going rate for these and this is a very up together car (unmarked body, wheels, 9/10 condition) so, am i being too fussy?

You're right to be fussy. 'Not as described' in eBay parlance. Money back, I think.

As an aside. The rear calipers on my E39 M5 have the 'M' log on but are the same caliper in every way as the E39 540 and will work in exactly the same way in each car. I refurbished the calipers on my car. It's really simple once you've got the caliper off the car and the old piston removed. Had them media blasted at an alloy wheel refurb place for £10 (came back looking amazing...like new...even though they'd been on the car for 13 years). Really important not to blast the bores. Painted them with VHT caliper paint (rattle can) and bought seals kit and pistons. Think I spent about £80 overall on the refurb of both. Treated mine to stainless bleed nipples, too. Very satifying thing to do!

Thanks for the replies. I contacted the seller and they want pics obviously but it doesn't seem like they're resistant to replacing the incorrect one.

I'm assuming they should cover return postage cost?

Might depend on their Ts & Cs, but worth a try.

the calipers were purchased based on a picture of an M stamped one and described as M3 3.0 and 3.2 front caliper. Although the casting is the right size for the one they sent, it was never factory fitted to those models without the requisite stamp in the casting.

i feel like i'm being extremely pedantic about this but i know it's the sort of thing that a potential buyer could pick up on.

I'm thinking more in terms of their returns policy: some specifically say returns at buyers expense, not sure how water tight that is, but might make it trickier. I agree with you about returning them, mine are quite clearly marked & I wouldn't want anything else in their place.

I would be doing the same as you, your car is sorted after a not inconsiderable effort so to that end it needs to be right. It's details like this that sets you and the car apart from others smile

You purchased based on the picture of the item which should represent the actual item or an identical item unless the description clearly states otherwise i.e. "Actual item may vary from the item shown".

If the item is different, no matter how slight, then you're not being pedantic you just want to receive the item you thought you were buying.

I'd be asking for a refund / replacement.

Great result! Sounds like the seller's reputation is well founded.

Well done, great result for you (although should have been correct in the first place).

Hi VinceFox, sorry to gatecrash this post. I wanted to ask you how you got on when you got a speeding ticket and hadn't renewed your photo licence. I know it was some time I go but I've just found it as I've been googling the same question👎
I'm new on here, it won't let me post on that forum for another 14 days. Thanks in advance.

They didn't care about it. I went into the station to produce and they made a note it had expired and that i had agreed to update it, which i then did. That was dorset, i assume it's the same everywhere though.
