996/7 turbo - warranty direct or warranty wise?
Discussion
My warranty is expiring in next few weeks and considering one of the above. Anyone got any experience on a Porsche, especially a 996/7 turbo
I am looking for wear and tear coverage, and a high claim limit
WD seems much more comprehensive, they say:
"Cover for wear & tear, deteriorating parts and damage by uninsured parts" / "Includes cover for "Premature", "Gradual" and "Normal" Wear & Tear to insured parts" - but not for first 90 days which is not ideal
"Use the repair facility of your choice with unlimited labour rates available" - good for Porsche indies!
"Annual Policy/Claims limit to Car value" - covers nightmare scenario of a £25k Mezger engine going pop
any possible policy exclusions to be worried about, or good/bad experiences with these cars?
thanks

The only thing I would ask, is how much are they quoting you? I got a quote on my 997 GT3 from WD and it was more than extending my Porsche warranty, so I just did that.
How old is your turbo?
The warranty direct policy is still restrictive on some items although it does make a song and dance about wear and tear as a sales feature, for example I have a WD policy on my 7 series (Extracare - 2nd best policy they do), and I had a parking sensor go wrong. As it wasn't a listed covered electrical item, it wasn't covered. If the same happened on a Porsche, the Porsche extended warranty would cover it.
It's swings and roundabouts to compare, but honestly I'd stick with the Porsche warranty if you are still eligable. If you are not, then make sure you can get the Extracare WD policy as the cover drops off for securecare (the 3rd product they sell).

I should add, the expiring warranty was not OPC, and I shudder to think the loopholes I would have to jump through to get through 111 and apply an OPC warranty - removal of my Mobridge ipod/BT for a start
initial quote when I asked 2 months ago was £1,200 but fell to £1,000 very quickly
its a 2008 car with 30k miles

I definitely wouldn't bother, I'd rather carry the risk myself. However, with the options you're looking at I'd suggest going with whoever will inspect the car beforehand. I organised a Warranty Direct policy for client once (as it covered up to 100 days inEurope, which he required) and for £60 they sent someone to check the car over first. It removes a considerable amount of wriggle room for them if you have to claim.
