I am starting to get fed up looking frown
Whenever I see a new listing on here or auto trader with low mileage in my colour choice I just miss out on it, yesterday I thought I found the perfect one, I enquired and the private seller had just done a deal with a broker.

Has anyone else had this problem? I am wanting to buy private and get an AM inspection so I don't need to pay a dealer premium hoping that I can get a better car for my money without paying the middle man.

I am looking to spend up to £37k and expected to see more private cars.

I was ready to bite the bullet and buy the one the dealer TH had but that was sold a couple of days ago too.
Any ideas where else I can look apart from here and auto trader?

Thanks in advance

Took me over a year - then I found one, a 2007 DB9 in midnight blue with sandstorm and under 10,000 miles, virtually as new, private sale. I was told by my nearest AM dealer "you will never find one at that spec on your budget", but I did. keep looking - Autotrader, Pistonheads, but also be prepared to keep looking at some dealers like McGurk and the official Aston used car site, some good deals come up sometimes. Good luck, it's worth the wait

From a discussion I had this morning you may well struggle. It seems top quality cars in the price range you are looking for are few and far between. For this reason they will get snapped up by the likes of McGurks who will achieve their margin because most buyers prefer the "comfort and convenience" of using a dealer. Given the apparent shortage I would register with some dealers what you are looking for so at least you get first shout before they hit the classifieds. I'm going to stick my neck out and say IMHO early low mileage 9 prices are going to stay pretty firm, again making them fairly desirable.

I have been having the same problem. I've looking now for over a year but just cannot find the right one. But then I am a bit fussy. I particularly would like aTitanium Silver DB9 for the same sort of money but they don't come up very often. I think patience is the key and getting nearer the warmer weather, we might see more available.

Frustrating though it is, in truth, the longer you have to wait, the longer your eventual choice will endure. yes

My experience is similar to that suggested in the other responses. I actually spent around four years looking for an Aston Martin.
There were three positive outcomes from the wait:
1) I became really familiar with prices and issues;
2) My wife eventually became resigned to the fact that I was going to get one at some point;
3) I originally thought that I'd get a DB7, but I ended up with a DB9 as they became more affordable and as I was poised and prepared to recognize and react to a great opportunity when one became available.
I've been thrilled with the outcome. Be patient, Grasshopper, and enjoy the journey, not just the destination!

You can't buy these cars in a rush unless you are prepared to pay top money. The OPs budget was exactly the same as what I ended up paying and I got a much better car than I actually thought I would get. I really wanted the 2007MY facelifted version with reasonable miles but they were few and far at <£40k. One car I was going to look at, a 2007 Volante with 55k miles on it, asking price £40k at a prestige car dealer, sold after one day!

It's just the luck of the draw if something comes up privately or independent garage. You are unlikely to get a facelift model for less than £40k (without high miles) from a dealer or a specialist. I did a 500 mile round trip to look at mine but did as much research as possible on the car beforehand. I was looking for about 6 months and did exactly the opposite of what all the advice says - bought the first one I saw. It was a small independent garage and we agreed they would do the big year 7 spark plug service as part of the deal. Six weeks in and I am loving it. Its onyx black with chancellor red leather and piano black inserts including door tops. IMO the combination just goes together so well.

Best of luck with your search.

It seems to me that you need to make a decision. The cars that have the full service history with decent mileage will typically come through the dealer or premium retailers. The one's with a history, higher mileage, lack of service history etc., will come up on the secondary market.

When you are spending a lot of money for an 8-10 year old car is the "top price" to get a car with a validated history and an Aston Martin warranty worth the perception of "top price". Is the product at a lower price through secondary markets really a better price. the answer to the latter depends entirely on what you find after you have bought it.

As someone who has very recently paid the dealer premium price to get what I wanted with the safety net of an AM warranty, to me it was worth it and also I am writing this with the car on the drive.

There was an element of luck in timing of course that I got the car, but the Dealership had advertised the car on the Friday BEFORE they got it in on the Tuesday. By the time they got the car in I had paid a holding deposit which fended off later enquiries. Speed and decisiveness seems to be an important part of the buying process!

It seems to me that prices for earlier DB9's have actually been going up not down recently and that has to be linked to the demand that is obviously out there. I think you need to add a few thousand to the budget to get what you want or lament still looking in possibly another 6 months, year, etc.

^ agree completely. Prices will start to creep up again very shortly as well.

I don't really think you can have too much of a fixed budget in mind with these cars. It needs to be a little flexible.

I have received a call from my local Main Dealer who stated that they would give me what I paid for the car 2 years ago (2007 DB9 Manual with Sports Pack) if I wanted to part exchange upwards or change to an F-Type.

Is that a reflection of db9 prices hardening or the difficulty of shifting an f-type?

I suspect it's a bit of both. Whilst the F Type is a cracking car (and it really is), I think it's a cracking car at Boxster money......not the stupid money they're pegging it at.

F Type R soft top....£97k before options.....you'd need you head read. I would wager that in 12 months's it's worth 50% of that trade.

a friend of mine has just purchased a 25k miles DB9 with the most perfect history (just had 3.5k spent at the last serviced) with 1 very famous and very wealthy owner........he paid probably 3k over the odds but it is the most perfect early example in as new condition......moral of the story is, pay a little more because it will almost certainly cause you less heartache in the future smile

It is better to pay too much for the right one than not enough for the wrong one!

My 2007 DB9 might be for sale for the right money. Have to do a lot better than 37k though.

There's a nice green 2007 DB9 coupe at Dick Lovett for under £45K and under 40,000 miles. See www.dicklovett.co.uk/Dealers/Specialist/Used-Car-D...

I'd hazard a guess that that is about £8k and 30k miles more than the OP is dreaming of paying.
