A bit of a long shot, but I'm looking to find the consumer exchange rate for GBP to CAD on 4th January 2008 with HSBC. It's easy to find the market rate on xe.com, but I'm having trouble finding HSBC's rate on that date. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Nationwide use the visa exchange rate. I think most banks use the visa / MasterCard rate, possible with a % loaded charge. Depends on the card you used. The visa website can give you exchange rates on a certain date.
Thanks for the help, but I called them and they don't have (or don't want to tell me) the rate. The Visa website only goes back 12 months, so it seems unlikely I'll find it out.
Assuming that the current spread between market rate and consumer rate is not a million miles different today to what it was in 2008, you could adjust the 2008 market rate (which you say you know) and get a good idea of the rate that you want...
