From the interviews I saw of him he appeared a really good guy. I have never read any of his books so would someone like to recommend me a start point? I dislike starting with a new author and finding out I started partway through a series of books.

I ate a Christmas meal with pTerry, for reasons I won't burden you with (it was in a group of about 30); he was a very humane man but in no way the jolly man he often seemed to portray. He viewed his humour as a very serious matter. He will be missed.

A nice chap, who as said, saw humour seriously.
if you want to read the Discworld, then start with The Colour of Magic, its the first one, but not the best. Then pick and choose, though there is a basic order, and characters can appear in any book. They are a good cynical/satirical view on our world.

Have only recently picked up on the DiscWorld series; I read The Colour of Magic a couple of months ago, after a colleague basically implored me to read them.. Have since read Episodes 1-6, and also Truckers, Diggers and Wings. I am, basically, hooked..

I am gutted that he's left us so soon after I got to know him and his style, wit and irreverence..
