Woooo - finally finished restoring all my data after rebuilding the desktop.

OK - so the restore failed on the USB modem, NIC and graphics drivers - but that's normal under Windows 2000.

What I have also lost is Office.

What do you do when you can't run it? I don't want to lose all my emails in Outlook

I have no icons and if I click on winword.exe nothing happens...

Outlook stores emails a .pst file so search your drive for all the .pst you can find take backups to CD. You can open this in outlook by the File open menu. Or if you have to after you have setup outlook you can do import from file .pst type as outlook wiil probably just setup a new blank .pst

Thanks Malman - any ideas why it's deinstalled yet all the files are in place?

Sounds like your registry has been overwritten.

I'd be guessing that its something to do with the failed bit. When you say you restore - how did you back it up in the first place. Did you just copy all files or use some backup software that is registry aware.

If its backup up and restored with some backup software your drivers should have worked.

Backup Exec 8.6 - it's a known issue with Windows that the drivers for graphics and NICs don't get restored. I'd dig out the Q-note if I could be arsed

It's also failed to restore the user logon details! I'll speak to my chums at Veritas tomorrow

After performing a restore of System State on a Windows 2000 server or workstation, network adapters either do not exist or do not function properly. Instead of the correct network adapter another device such as a WAN miniport (L2TP) device may be listed in Device manager.
