Probs with SanDisk USB2.0 CF Reader
Discussion
Having looked through the support section at SanDisk.com, I'm hoping I might have more joy with the collective expertise here...
I've just bought a SanDisk SDDR-92 USB2.0 CF reader. I'm using XP that's servicepacked and have done a driver check. The PC is adamant it's already got the best driver for the job. When I put a CF card in, however, the LED on the top of the reader lights up, the device shows up as E: on my PC but doubleclicking on it just elicits an "insert disk into Drive E" message each time. It just won't seem to recognise when a CF card is loaded and therefore I never get as far as seeing a load of DCIM files to download.
Any ideas? The CF card is a 256MB SanDisk Ultra II straight out of my 10D. Do I need to perform some kind of formatting of the CF cardreader before putting it into the camera and taking pics?

I use a Ultra 11 500mb without any problems on xp sp2 as well as a lexar 80x 1gb. Sandisk Part no on USB2 reader is slightly different though: sddr-91 part 20-90-00091 if that makes any difference ?
Sounds like a driver issue to me.. Did you install the drivers that came with the reader? Maybe try rolling back the installation using XP restore and re-installing the drivers?

Thanks, Phil.
Despite XP's assurances of self sufficiency, I had a poke around the CD that came with the CF reader and found an XP sub-folder cunningly hidden inside the top level Win98 folder. A few double clicks and I'm now in business - although I can't profess to know exactly what ended up getting installed, nor how it fixed the problem.
If anyone else buys one of these things and gets stuck, look in the Win98 folder!
Cheers,
Dave
