I am about to buy a GT3 and have the following options. Assuming that budget is not a huge issue (other than wanting amazing value for money!), which of the following would people choose?-

1 GT3 Mk1, LHD, 2,000 miles for £50k - would need to do the 6 pot brake conversion and get a porsche warranty myself

2 GT3 mk1, rhd, 27k miles, around £50k, with brake conversion done and 9 month porsche warranty

3 your pick of GT3 mk2s from OPC/private with circa 18m warranties, around 4k miles for around £64k dealer, £60kish private.

Opinions would be gratefully received.

Cheers

Buy the low mileage LHD Mk1 and spend the extra cash on engine, suspension, brake upgrades.

I'd buy the rhd one frankly - always better for resale and more likely to repay any money you do spend on mods

I'd go for the RHD MKI

This will certainly have the best residuals out of the lot.

The MKI is a tad sharper on the handling, (poss due to it being lighter) the MKII is a tad quicker on the straights, but we are talking very marginal differences in both these areas.

If money is not an option, i'd go for the MKII (i have one) i prefer the more up to date look.

Both are awesome track cars, and yes brake upgrade on MKI is important IMHO

RHD Mark 1. I had one and found it exceptional. Apparantly the Mark 11 misses that certain wow factor the Mark 1 had. You will look a bit silly driving it about....hideous wing.

I think Mk2 are exceptional value. For 10k more you get a much newer car and a warranty. Also no need to upgrade the brakes. Less chance of anything going wrong etc.

I had one and thought it was an excellent car. I now have an RS.

I agree - the Mk2 is better value at only 10k more.

However, the comparison would be trickier if you could find a good Mk1 LHD in the 40-50k range. (Always preferred LHD personally, just seems more natural.)

You will not have to upgrade the brakes on a MK1 if you are not planning to do track days if you are Jasmine Motor sport do the upgrade for £1,100.00 + vat. Then sell the 4 pot calipers on ebay for £300.00 ish. With the MK2 the weak link is the suspension its just to soft even the RS suffers from the same to a point though it performs well with a track biased set up. Its accepted that Porsche softened the MK2 to appeal to the US market.

Mk2 prices are not far above Mk1's and with a stronger engine it would just tip the balance for me, fit Manthey or JRZ suspension then it would be perfect.

Depends on what your planned use if for the car - if it's track days then a LHD isn't a bad proposition - especially if you plan to do European tracks too. Might be worth checking euro-based OPC's for prices - tho I guess that could be marginal with the current FX rate.

The GT3 mk1 seems to hold its value better than mk2 with only app. 1800made , something to think about. Quite a few motor journalists prefer the mk1, but the mk2 does have the stronger engine.

Will you be choosing the mk1 or mk2 now that you are searching again?
