Hello, I am hoping that Rolex releases the GMT Pepsi in more affordable steal. However I read another forum that think they will keep the Pepsi colours for the White gold and bring out a red/black Coke version in steel. Any predictions?

Neither. GMT steel & gold in tobacco colour dial.

They will milk it at least another year before doing it on the stainless steel.

We will see. Not long till Basel now.

Is 'steal' a typographical error, or a damning indictment of Rolex's pricing policy?

Very sincere guy in Fraser Heart recently told me he'd been at Rolex a couple of weeks ago and they'd ruled it out completely. Apparently just to expensive/complicated to roll out those colours in steel.

He had nothing to gain from bullstting me tbh, though I'm sure the black/blue has done amazingly well for them so who knows...

Lol. I meant steel but maybe subconsciously my head made me type steal.

How much extra do you think it costs Rolex to make a red colour bezel? Obviously it is not thousands. Say it is a couple of hundred pounds per watch then I would be happy to pay that. there must be a huge demand because all I have heard about the white gold GMT is that it is only for the mega rich and everyone wants a "steal" version.

Since they do the blue/black in steel that doesn't make a lot of sense... confused

I can only assume that its easier to manufacture a bi colour if it is half black. I actually prefer the Blue-Black and I'm certain that the blue represents Pan-Am's logo colour as its identical. Apparently the original Ref 6542 Pepsi with the bakelite bezel represented Pan-Am's colours but not sure where the red fitted in.

I've read on one of the Rolex forums that it is very expensive and why they won't be doing it..........something to do with the ceramic process and red pigment in particular.
Don't know how true or not that is, but that's the rumour.

Indeed but with the new CEO, or whatever his title is now, they may return to their vintage roots and bring back the true and trusted aluminium inserts again.

I have been to a couple of Rolex evening events and at the last one they told me that the cost of producing the Pepsi bezel was far to high to incorporate into steel watch pricing.

Apparently it costs about £3k and it is the red specifically that causes the issue.

I've heard the same story and frankly it doesn't really matter if it's true or not - the number of pi***d off ppl if they release a steel version with pepsi ceramic bezel and the effect on residuals for the WG is such that they must have thought about it long & hard before releasing the WG one

I read that the red/blue contrast was for AM & PM time zones.

Oh well. Rolex have been disappointing this year. Maybe next year for a Pepsi GMT.

Won't happen Craig. The 'Pepsi' is an option on white gold. The steel option is the BLNR Blue/Black. It's the different colour options that define the model. To do a steel 'Pepsi' would cause confusion, and be very un-Swiss.

Can't help but hope I suppose... wink

Hi
My experience of selling the GMT Master is that the Pepsi dial is considerably more desirable.
Prices are definitely on the up following the White gold version.
I sold my last Pepsi privately for £4950. It was a 2006 mint example. Some dealers are now asking around £6000!

I love the White Gold Pepsi but I don't love the older Pepsi models. I think the Ceramic bezel makes all the difference. I would but a Sub or Sea Dweller with a ceramic bezel. A dealer told me yesterday that Rolex won't release the GMT Pepsi in steel because of the White Gold but know on is buying the White Gold anyway. I don't really understand.
