Budget requirements mean I am looking to buy a new tv, secondhand. In the old family house, we had a 42" Pioneer plasma and the picture was fantastic.
Now I have moved out, I needed a TV and a smaller one, so bought a 37" Panasonic LCD set.
It is awful! Pictures "soggy" and vague.
Is this how a 4 yr old set will be, and should I look at a 37" plasma for a better picture?
I would go Pioneer again, but with the frame, the 42" / 43" is just too big.

Sadly no more plasma screens being produced so I believe. With 4K and OLED being the future it now boils down to 'setting up the screen' correctly and choosing the right panel for the room both by lighting and size.

Screen technology has moved on, but choosing the right panel is hard work...dont just think Samsung or Panasonic!

Try and find one of the recent Pany plasmas, I managed to get one of the VT65's before they stopped making them to replace my old 42" Pany. The picture quality is fantastic and way beyond what any LCD can achieve, the replacement now is OLED but as it's new tech the prices are still crazy high.

Get on eBay and hunt for the plasma.

ISO, to those who know, if I'm looking for a £150 - £200 used 3 - 4 year old 37" plasma, which is the daddy to look for. All the model numbers mean nothing to me

37" is quite small for a plasma. We have one on the wall of the bedroom, it's a fab picture, a Panasonic 37PX70. I was looking to maybe sell it recently as it's a bit large, maybe get a 32" instead. However they were only going for around £100 on eBay, so I won't be bothering.

In short, buy one of those. It'll still knock spots off most of the new LCD sets around.
