Is the normal thing to advertise private addresses back to users? Also may I ask if you use Squid?

Not usually, though the private addresses don't really tell you much. You may ask, and yes - as is shown in the network response in any developer tools you could use looking at the site.HMM I as still getting this after your message?

Just asking if that was to be expected, usually preference is to keep internal schema 'private'. Re squid I've only known smaller shops to use it, larger ones using blucoat and the like - its quite an endorsement if its good enough for you guys.

When we put Squid in (about 6/7 years ago... i forget it was so long ago) we were doing quarter of a billion page impressions a month - and it helped massively.
Since then we have moved on in tech for quite a lot of the site, just the forums (and some member stuff) now sit under the Squid boxes and do less traffic than that. Also the Internet has moved on, Varnish would be the choice these days if we had the same situation.
