Has anyone else downloaded this?

I've been enjoying it after grabbing it on the PS4 the other day. I rarely download in preference of a disc, but the disc copy isn't available yet and is actually a 1/3rd more to buy, according to Amazon, so I thought I'd cut my trade in return against the discount price for the download version. You also get Hunk as a character in Raid.

For your £20 you get six episodes of 'story' content, albeit only four make up the Revelations 2 storyline. The last two episodes haven't been announced yet, so maybe downloading makes sense as there is no disc sat depreciating by your television whilst you wait for them to come out. The episodes themselves are about 2&1/2 to 3 hours long each, at a guess. Much quicker if you what you're doing and you bang through them fast, but you can't do that first time around. The game focuses on a 'partner' system where utilising different skills between characters to survive the levels. It's an interesting system, and works well.

The game itself is a bit of a shakeup for Resident Evil, which has become increasingly naff as the years have went on, resulting in Resident Evil 6 being unadulterated st. With Revelations, the pace dials back in favour of survival horror (although it's still easy to amass a huge hoard of ammo and become a walking tank). The episodic content works well too, with each episode being split in two between the main characters, Claire Redfield and Barry Burton. This helps to keep the pace in check, as each 90 minute or so section builds to a crescendo and finishes, and then the next part starts. It's a great format for the game (aided by the fact the episodes are all available now, so you don't have to wait for them. Telltale Games, for instance, love to make you wait so long you forget what happened in the last episode of their games...).

The locations aren't visually inspiring but they get a lot better after Chapter One, which is set in a derelict prison (as dreary as it sounds). The first Revelations game had much better environments aboard the Queen Zenonbia cruise ship. Revelations 2 was built for consoles rather than a handheld like the first game, so I would have liked some better environments.

The real start of the show though, is Raid mode. Gone is the old arena based shooting action with a countdown constantly running. Now you get gauntlet style levels with a variety of enemies and a focus on stats and shooting skill. The RPG elements and loot collection are addictive and you'll always want to do one more level. It's so good, and has been praised by the reviewers, that this sort of thing should be expanded on a lot more.

Anyway, it's not a classic in the Resident Evil series but it's worth a download if you're stuck for something to do before Battlefield, Bladestorn, Bloodborne and Neverwinter Online arrive!
