Im expecting a dividend payment this week but also looking to sell some shares - can anybody tell me if the number of shares I have has any relevance to the dividen payment or do I simply just need to be a shareholder to recive the dividend?

Would the dividend payment be any different if I had 10 shares or 1000 shares?

Thanks!

Yup the dividend will be an amount payable per share you hold, so 1000 shares would receive a larger dividend vs 100 shares.

Also - look up the ex-div date.
There is a delay between when they check who owns the shares and when they actually pay you the div.
(Typically the share price drops by the value of the dividend on the day the shares go ex-div, for that reason.)
So you may already be on the register to get the divs and are hence free to sell as many as you like and STILL receive the div from when you owned them.

Obviously FUTURE dividends will only relate to the shares you hold next time they check the register.
