What type of boat is the Uttern s51?

I'd like to search for boats which are similar - but lower in cost - to the Uttern 51 (would definitely be bought used).

What I'm looking for is for inshore/coastal use, should have a decent depth of hull, plenty of storage, sporty appearance, with decent running costs.

However I should also point out I'm also looking at a range of sub 4m RIBs: (Avon Seasport, Brig F360L Tender, Eagle 380, Grand S370L, G340/380L/GL, Highfield Oceanmaster, Mercury Ocean Runner, Ribeye TS370, Zodiac Yachtline DL) - so there may be the odd question about those cropping up.

But getting back to the Uttern type of boats - can anyone recommend alternatives please, or at least help me with search terms when looking around for inspiration.

'ang abaaht...are you sure? Bowriders fit the bill but the dorys coming up via image search see to be open wooden boats...

Bowrider.

There a hugely popular here in Norway. If you are looking for one Id highly recommend Yamarin. Other marks are Finn Master or Askeladden. I did consider a Utern but i didnt like the build quailty compared to the Yamarin

I had a 5.3 meter Yamarina bow rider and it was a brilliant boat. I have gone up a size for this year as I am planning on doing more open sea stuff

Thanks for the suggestions KemP, will take a look at the makes you mention. However, I've realised these might not be most appropriate - potential for beach hopping is pretty important so I might have to go back to sports-RIBs.

I have a 17' Dory Sportsman with a 135 V6 Mercury outboard.
Extremely stable - dories are popular as rescue boats & the Marine's Rigid Raiders are that style - but being cathedral hulled is a bit bumpy when running into wave & can be quite wet as a consequence!
They do have a bit of a reputation for water in the foam between the inner & outer hulls so be careful.

The Uttern hull looks more like a bow rider style not a dory/Boston Whaler cathedral style.

No problems.

I know with the Yamarins you can spec a stainless steal keel on the grp boats. As mine has an ali hull it comes with the stainless keel as standard.

The standard PH reply is to get a RIB. Get one with a Merc or a Mariner is my suggestion.

Of course I say this as I sell Stingher/Predator/Red Bay RIBs and Mercs.

Thanks for the pointers paintman; something that can be beached is pretty important but I'd like it to look sporty with a deep V hull...not sure of a Sportsman ticks all of the boxes - but if you have any other suggestions, chuck them up!

Yep, a RIB ticks all the boxes, have drawn up a list of potential candidates as long as they're available used or at a good price. Still get drawn back to the likes of Quicksilver though (as in 425 Commander) - something compact and sporty - just wouldn't be appropriate for beach hopping though.

It can be done. Unless you have another way of beach hopping in the UK
