I have noticed over a period of time that my drivers door rubber seal is worn quite a lot.

I know the drivers door gets a lot of open/close action, but should this be doing this?

It has worn that much, that it has a hole in it too.

I don't suppose that it will cause any problems, but this door seal is only 2 years old, as I had it replaced when I purchased the car. No doubt some one will say, 'there's your answer, they do wear there on the seal.' The passenger door seal looks brand new and hasn't worn at all.

However, I thought that I would ask if anyone else's seals are like this??

That wear is not from opening and closing the door, it is from rubbing against it as you get in and out.

Looks like the door hinges have worn and the door needs realigning. Is the door brushing against it every time it is opened and closed?

I can see how you might think that, but I can assure you I don't brush against it getting or out of my car.

I can only assume that it is brushing against it everytime. It's strange how it was similar to to the images when I purchased the car and the dealer changed it. So 2 years down the line it is like it again.

Does sound like the door alignment is out.
What do your panel gaps look like?

Looking again at the pic - the door itself should just compress the outer seal.
It looks like the door trim/card/pocket (plastics) is rubbing past the seal as the door is opened/closed.

Oh I can see the scenario at chateaux zeb.....

'MORE polish!'

'well technically love its not polish, its rubber seal conditioner'

'rubber seal what???'

'its for the door seals you see, to stop them getting chapped and frayed'

'god give me strength....hes bought moisteriser for his car'

Haha, essentially spot on. The stuff does make the seals rather nice and definitely takes some years off. I've not tried it on my face yet but theres only so much glitter that'll stick to a turd smile

Fat blokes and their polish aside, have a look at this pic. It's looking straight down the door gap with the door slightly ajar. Note the clearance between the rubber and the rear of the metal interior door handle/arm rest. Is there a chance yours is a millimetre or two out of alignment?

I have just had a good look around the drivers door and set it as it is in your image. However, there looks like there is plenty of space like yours. confused

I'm a little surprised, perhaps my arse is bigger than I think and it rubs against it!! eek
