Have your solicitors given you any advise over any claim you may have over lost originality?

I would assume from your post that they are looking to make-good the damage but that you feel this will de-value your asset and you are seeking compensation for such potential loss. Personally speaking, I'd have thought for a 'normal' old car having repairs undertaken is expected and wouldn't cause any loss in value provided the repair is to a standard in-keeping with the rest of the car. The 'newness' of new carpets for example will compensate for any 'originality' value of the old carpets.

Unless it is something very special indeed, you'll be hard pushed to demonstrate that a low mileage 1991 car which is already in need of bodywork repairs has any real value in the originality of a few sections of interior trim IMHO.

How are new arches and sills worth £8k?

Is the car not so rare that you might be able to find good used carpets?

Pre repairs value 17k, post repair 25k which is an 8k difference in value and you said it was having sills and arches done. Hence my question!

Can you not find good used spares such as carpets? 1991 isn't that old in the grand scheme of things smile

The real bigger issue is simply some of the parts are not available

In some cases there are replica parts (not great quality but they could be replaced and not original).

However as I say some bits just aren't available as original parts, pattern parts or replica parts, so I am a bit stuck. They my be available second hand but most of the second hand ones are worse than mine.
Thanks for the clarification and it sounds a real problem. What car is it as most early car trim can be replicated, and if it's later moulded stuff can the manufacturer supply parts if second-hand stuff is hard to find?

Good luck with it.

Only reason I don't want to say is that it may influence the case / would probably name and shame the restorer.

Re parts, have been looking at remanufacturing parts and they are seriously expensive to the point that it could well be an economic write off.

To clarify that all of the £8k of work needs to be re done + damage needs to be rectified so I can se a bill for £12 - £15k according to the "Experts!!"

I suspect you have no case and any and all monies paid to your solicitors will be wasted. By all means pursue your fantasy but if you have any kind of case to litigate why would you be asking here?

You selected "your" choice of repairer and have a contract with them. So, if you can show this, along with the pre/post condition of the vehicle there should be no problem getting a judgement in your favour.

Why didn't you pay the asking price for your so called "Experts!" to carry out the repairs in the first place!

What make and model of car is it and exactly what parts have they damaged and how ?

Edited by mph on Thursday 19th March 08:02

Update. I've just seen your other thread which lists all the damaged items.

I don't really understand why you've started a new thread on the same subject or why you are reluctant to name the make and model of car.

Last point on this.

1. No naming and shaming on Pistonheads
2. Make and model would allow people to work out restorer (again no name and shame)

Settlement now forth coming on the understanding I don't disclose the above

Thanks for all the helpful advice
