I've just noticed that Halfords are doing 5w50 fully synthetic track day oil for 20 quid for 5 litres. What is the general consensus regards Halfords own oil going into a 7?

I thought the general consensus was that the Halfords 5w50 Motorsport oil was produced for them by Comma and is thus the same stuff you'd buy from Caterham albeit in a different bottle.

As its the grade used by Caterham themselves then it should be fine but the pureists would tell you that an oil of this weight is arguably a bit thicker than needed. It probably depends on how you use the car as to what's best. Is it mostly road or track? Also what engine are we talking about here?

IF it's a Ford Duratec then Ford themselves recommend a 5w30 I believe. For what it's worth I'm running fully synthetic 5w40 in mine.

I always say this, and insert what ever name you like, 40 years in the industry worked on loads of oil refineries, never seen a 'Halford' one. Look at the spec.

I run 5w50 in my 1.8 VVC doing road miles. Has been up to 9k miles a year. Bought from Halfwords a few times to no ill effect.

I already have some Comma 5w50 in my garage so I think I'll get some of the Halfords 5w50 (as its on special) as its due an oil change soon.

Worth getting the deals if you have an apollo tank as it'll take near 7 litres of oil, so two bottles.

Bargain!
I use halfords fully synthetic 5W30 in my sigma as that's what Ford recommend & it usually costs a little more than £20.
