Always thought they were a very pretty saloon/coupe and a worthy follow up to the 3.0CSI and 635. All three cars I'd love to own but haven't got the balls to buy them.
But they got a bit of stick for rear access etc IIRC. Who cares I sit in the front.
Maybe one day.....
Definitely a classic – or at very least a future classic – in my book and I think I may have looked at that very car. I really love these and have been considering one as 'replacement' for the Monaro. The folly of this, given the miles I do, has been pointed out to me by my wife and so I've now got an A6 diesel on the way.
But at least it's the biturbo so not a bad result in the end.

Great car, I would say definitely a classic. Relatively old, interesting, out of 'banger' status and very different. As has been said this is one of the last BMWs I like too. There is a V8 one driven as a daily by someone parked at a hotel I stay at regularly and it looks superb. From what I remember these were designed after BMW had some involvement with Toyota? You can definitely see similar design cues to my 80s Celica Supra in it particularly around the bonnet and lights.
Well done that man! I think they look great and technically anything older than 10 years gets a classic insurance ability. There is one model above it and it has .6 litre more or something (memory fade due to age) but they are starting to fetch bonkers money now.

Yep, I'd probably regards as a classic now. Certainly are you look when you see them on the road.
Agree they look better now than in period. I seem to remember that they were revealed at the same time as the Vauxhall Calibra. Journalists at the time commented that the Calibra design shone much brighter than the 8 series. Mmm, I wonder which has aged better....
