Diff/Gearbox ratios on a 280i.....
Discussion
I have posted the same in the TVRCC forum but thought I'd ask here also....
I'm having a rethink with my wedge....
I currently have a "type 9" (I think its a type 9 anyway) 5 speed gearbox, and a 3.06:1 rear diff.
I think the diff should be a 3.54:1 so am trying to source one to fit and see if it makes any difference to my "issue".
Car does drive nicely in normal traffic but in some slow traffic certain speeds are "between 1st and 2nd" the revs are relatively high in 1st but a bit "chuggy" in second.
Second "issue" is only evident when in the Motoroing Demonstration at wings and wheels.
The car "seems" to accelrate fine in 1st, 2nd and 3rd, but the change to 4th (and subsequently 5th) there is a noticeable drop in acceleration, someone has suggested this might be a gear box ratio issue, but I'm wondering if I get the correct diff back in the car if both issues will be improved?
I'm told the 3.06:1 is a "higher" ratio than the 3.54:1, (I did wonder if it was lower as the car still goes "like stink" in 1st and 2nd) so wonder if that will move the slow traffic speed nicely into 2nd gear and make the engine less laboured in 4th/5th?
Any thoughts/coments welcome.
As I say its not a big problem but I'm sure you all know that when something "doesn't feel right" you tend to keep thinking about it.
