Well son passed his test, got insurance, and we waved him gooodbye, with an MOT, and a full tank of petrol, last month, only to turn out and fetch him back from embarrasing mini/barrier scenario this evening,

H'es a bit shook up, with both dented pride, and shock at it all, but OK,

I caught my dad's pride and joy on the garage wall the first time I drove it after passing my test! He only wanted me to move it out of the way to get another car onto the drive! Mildly embarassed by that one

Just made the final payment for my Fiesta Popular 1 Litre (still know the reg, E139 NBX!!) afetr passing my yest,, a week later whilst driving along in a 30 zone I momentarily looked down to the radio I had just had fitted, and,, too late to avoid, went into the back of a woman's car, first trip to Redditch having just travelled from up north to attend her farther's funeral!!!! Was a sickening experience, and since then, I have always been careful about the car in front!!

My first was N/S/F wing into driver's door of an old bat's Clio - I was turning right out of a T junction, she was parked directly opposite me and pulled out as I did.

Entirely my fault of course.

Rear ended a mazda 626 in Amsterdam with my first car - Saab 900 GLs auto - in Amsterdam. Saw the lights turn green and cars take off, decided to let the car roll with closed throttle and look a bit to the pavement on the other side of the street where another Saab was parked, only to find there was another car in front of me halfway to the right, that wasn't so quick...

Damage - 1 headlight, 1 sidelamp marker/indicator light unit, front bumper hanging in front of the bosywork at a bit of an angle, deep scratch on left front bonnet corner, insurance premiums for next year. Felt d*mn awkward.

My first shunt was around December 1960 with an Austin Healey Sprite.

I had stopped at the tail end of a queue of traffic on an icy downhill section of road when an old motorcycle combination failed to stop and shunted my rear end.

It was a bit sickening to have my first car damaged like that when it was only 3 months old.

My mate, then a new copper, and with no bumps etc, got his very first emergency callout, and took off at a rate of knots, came off a roundabout, and backward into lamp-post
he was there practically crying at the time with shame, and pulling huge dent out of boot with his bare hands poor chap
these days scameravilles BIB positively anticipate a crash before, setting off!

In my first car, a 1.1LX Fiesta, Looked down to fiddle with the radio, looked up suddenly discover the car in front had stopped Slammed on the brakes, locked up completely and bumped the car in front at about 5mph..

In a company Almera, M42 in convoy with 5 other cars, me at the front with the detectors, vectra in front of me without warning and with nothing in front of him weighs anchor mate behind couldn't pull it up in time, had to put his Cupra into the armco but still gave me a kick up the arse.

My first bump was too much accellerator on a wet roundabout (jucntion 20, M62) in a Fiat Mirafiori 131.....

I put the works van, through a hedge, bounced off a poplar tree, through a chainlink fence & into a builders yard. Very very very very lucky to walk away.

That was before I'd heard of car control, the first car to turn up at the scene was a Golf Gti with a cage in & IAM badge. I signed up the next week.

Had someone go into the back of me when I was waiting to turn right into a junction. There are definite benefits to having a towbar. Damage to my car: split towball cover, damage to their: smashed bumper which holed the radiator.

My first one was when I drove my dad's Mk2 Jaguar into a pile of coal, when I was seven. My first proper one when I actualy had a licence was when I spun a new Granada and put it backwards very neatly into a large brick pillar in Woolwich. It had a large V shape in the rear and the pillar was untouched.

A week after passing my test I realised that just because there is an NSL sign doesn't mean you have to go down a single carriageway at 60, even round corners.

I ploughed my 1985 Escort into a 1986 Sierra. Cost me £6 for a new indicator light from a breakers and a bag of fish and chips for my father to fix it.

My 3PFT insurance paid the Sierra owner a new door, pillar and bonnet...
