I consider myself intelligent but the instructions with my Canon MV600 have got me confused. Simple question, can I transfer video images from this digital camcorder to my computer & if so what do I need? I’d be really grateful for some help.

Cheers, Stu.

yes you should be able to transfer video to a computer via firewire. you will need a firewire cable, a firewire card (if not already fitted in your computer) and appropriate software to edit the footage down. im not sure if you will be able to send the footage back to the camera though. as i dont think the firewire port on the camcorder is in/out.

I hope this helps a little,
Oliver

Thanks Oliver, the Canon instructions say DV Cable (IEEE 1394) is that the same as firewire. If so I might be in luck cos there's a port on the front of the pc tower marked "1394".

Indeed, IEEE 1394 is firewire - sounds like you are good to go! The camera should have come with the cable also...

Cheers guys, sorry for sounding such a dim wit but I just got p155ed off with the thing. I actually bought the camera last year & bought Pinnacle studio at the same time but didn't bother editing. Since then I've bought a new PC, now with XP.

Purchased said DV cable today, plugged camera into PC & bloody XP does it all for me, even got the video editing software.... I didn't know that. I reckon Bill Gates is a top geezer.

Anyway, thanks alot. Stu.

Tell that to all the small software companies he is squeezing out of business...

Anyway - enjoy your editing, and if your video is car related, don't forget to post it on www.pistonheads.tv

I found Pinnacle easier to use than Windows Movie Maker, though I get the feeling that MM is more flexible in producing diiferent frame sizes for output.
