Thing to do in loch lomand?

We just booked a lastminute getaway. Will be nice to go away for a few days with our new golf R
Any suggestions for things to do in that area? Driving and non driving things?

If you want a nice meal, get yourself booked in at the Cameron Grill at Cameron House - without a doubt the best steak I've ever had.

Also, just down the road at The Carrick is one of the best Spa's I've been to. It's not cheap though!

Definitely drive to Oban if you have the time. Really nice drive and you can visit Isle of Mull by ferry.

The further north west you go the nicer it gets, so I'd definitely go for a half day drive through Argly, lovely scenery and nice roads.
Ideally go as far as Crinan which is just past Lochgilphead, which is about 2 hours from the bottom of Loch Lomond.

If thats too much driving just go as far as Inverary you will still get some lovely views and a nice drive.

Also the Rest and Be Thankfull is little winding road just past the top of Loch Lomond, it used to be used as a stage in the RAC and Scottish Rally not sure if you can drive on it now.

Drive to Glen Coe.

As above, Glenn Coe is awesome.... In the day, not sure I'd be quite as happy on a dark moonless night though.

And it might be a bit cold, but swimming in Loch Lomond is brill, strange dark peaty water that in places is 600+ft deep, definitely makes you wonder if there's something down there.

Absolutely not - I drove all the way from Devon just to experience driving up through Glen Coe. It was worth a 600 mile drive so if you don't do it whilst staying that close then, well, you're daft.

I still remember the last time I was there, 1977, family holiday, and we were headed up the road along the side of the Glen in dad's new Cortina.

Two USAF A7 Corsairs in full Vietnam brown an green camouflage flew past at about the same height as we were.

Glen Etive, where a skyfall scene was filmed (where they got out the aston and talked) is worth paying a visit to. Pm me if you want to know how to find it (it's near fort William)

Food? Try the Cameron Grill. (I'm biassed because I used to work there). Pricey though.

drive the A817 over to Faslane and then continue round to Coulport. And then drive back.

Known locally as the roller coaster road.

There are some absolutely incredible roads not half an hour from Glasgow.

In years gone by I used to do 40k+ miles a year on them in my 20v Urquattro.

Great restaurant and a great hotel. I'd recommend both.

Plenty of great roads around there. Agree with driving to Glen Coe (and Fort William).

Try GlenCoe mid winter where the snow poles make sense,. It's not too bad on a dark night, except for the sheep and deer. Can be nasty with a bit of wind and rain. Problem is that now the surface might be ok, and the edges are getting reinforced, but the road is sinking, and the cambers ( if you don't know what to look for) can throw you. Try a round trip just past the B832,( about .7 mile) up the Glen Fruin road to Gairlochhead , up the A814 to Tarbet ,and back down the A82. Via Luss , of course home ,(amongst many other local places )to the TV program "take the high road".
A trip to Balmaha ( Balloch on A811 to B837) ,takes you to the other side of the loch. BUT, from childhood memories, there is a nasty hill on the way .

There's the yellow float-plane that boards at Cameron House. It does 30 minute trips for about 12 passengers. It's a turbo-prop so covers a lot of ground. Not cheap but worth it.

The Lodge on the Loch near Luss.. Awesome food, rooms and amazing spa. Forget the website, just call and haggle!!
