Odd Steam invites

Normally I am Billy No Mates on Steam,just a few on my friends list , but recently I have been getting friend invites from complete strangers. People on level 0 or 1,with no games in their inventory,and who I have never played with! A couple have attractive ladies as an avatar,presumably to entice me!

So just WTF? Am I suddenly attractive to n00bs,or is this the pre cursor to some sort of scam?
I should add I have no intention of accepting

No way am I accepting in any event,block instead

My mate was complaining of this, getting add's from random people, thankfully its not something I've experienced yet. It does have scam written all over it though.
