Mechanical to electrical speedometer.

What's involved in converting from a mechanical speedometer to an electrical version? I have a 1999 seven, 6 speed gear box. EU2 K Series, original ECU.
My speedo's recently stopped working, and I hear that the angle drive can be troublesome? So I'm wondering the options and overall cost of converting.
The speedo drive from the 6 speed box doesn't seem overly tight. What I mean by this is that I can reach underneath and turn it, it tightens freely, but then goes loose again. It's doesn't tighten to a stop as it were, this could be my problem.
Do you have to block the gearbox end up if you convert?
Buy an 80mm speedometer.
Buy a sensor and mount...where?
Buy the associated wiring?

My 1999 live-axle car had been fitted with a Caterham Electronic speedo after the worm wheel went walkies. Looked like quite a simple instal, there's a sensor which counts the brake disc retaining bolts going by which itself was mounted onto a simple bracket which replaces the two caliper to upright retaining bolt spacers. The wire ran up the upright, across the wishbone and up to the dash. I suppose it also needs an ignition switched live and another which comes live with the headlights. Of course your current speedo will have these so all in all a couple of hours work probably. The speedos are simple to calibrate.
