Caught: 105mph M40 Gaydon

Over the weekend i was pulled over by a Volvo on the M40 by Gaydon - i averaged 105mph over a mile.

I've read through a few sites, and looks like i'm inline for a short ban, although if i'm lucky, 6 points and a fine? copper said 1 month.

Just wondered what other people thought?

Never been done before - and the road was clear and dry.

Don't know where he pulled out from, i didnt pass him, so must have been a slip road - spotted him quite far off and slowed, but obviously not far enough!

My commiserations to you, as usual, and I just hope that no more than a minimal penalty is imposed.

At least you weren't doing 110 mph up the hard shoulder.

One should always drive within the speed limit. One should especially do so when passing Warwick Services on the M40, which is a popular speed trap place!

Rough guess - look on the left theres a heading that says Survey. Under that theres a link for contribute.

Don't think there's a hard and fast rule of conviction - I was always led to believe over the ton was an automatic ban, but being an "innocent" victim last year, found out it was not true (to my relief)- I got 6 points and 340 quid fine.

Hard cheese, old chap. 118mph, 28 days suspension, no points, £330 fine (ish). It did take almost 6 months to go to court (any more than that and it can be thrown out). The essence is the amount over the limit. 30 mph is the threshold, hence 100 in a 70 zone. The same penalties would apply if you did 60 in a 30 zone. Furthermore, over 30 mph is the top band, so, technically, there would be no difference in penalties if you were caught at 100, or 140. If you are seen by a magistrate, (and you probably will) then the amount af penalty they can impose varies. I seem to recall, although I may be wrong, that the top fine they can issue is around £600, and the top suspension 54 days. They may also and/or impose points, which if you have a lot on already, may push you over the 12 max. Of course, a Crown court can impose much stiffer penalties.
