I have heard and read a lot of the posts about PCCBs, sorry in advance if this subject is just too boring for some, BUT........... Please could any genuine 991 GT3 owners who do track days let me know whether I should spec them in my 991 RS. I will be doing about 3 to 5 track days a year, and intend to drive it like I hired it.
Do these things really get eaten up after 4 or 5 track days?? I want to experience the car with the lightest possible options, but not if I need to lay out £10k per season on brakes.

I hear a lot of chatter, but not sure how much is anecdotal and how much is from genuine Porsche owners who drive hard and know what they are talking about.

Thanks chaps.

My 997 RS had ceramics and I did loads of track days with it and had no issues.

Others will tell you different though.

Personally I would spec it with ceramics.

I've owned 2 991 GT3s - both CS spec cars, one had PCCBs, the other did not. I preferred the PCCB equipped car, it felt slightly more nimble on its feet, and I preferred the brake pedal feel. The total lack of brake dust was also welcome.

I didn't do any track days in the PCCB car, so can't comment on brake wear rate. However, I recently helped a friend aquire a GT3 RS 4.0, it had done a lot of track work, was on 12,000 km when we collected it, and when we had it inspected, the discs were less than 20% worn.

I like you hear a lot of chatter, but I suspect much of it is anecdotal. If I get an allocation at my OPC, I'll be speccing them....!

I love my PCCBs for road use, but to date have no experience with them on track.

However, my understanding is:

1) We are now on the 3rd evolution of the Porsche discs, so many of the horror stories which refer to previous versions are probably not relevant

2) How long the discs last is seemingly very dependent on how they are used, and in particular how heat build up is managed on track - my understanding is that cool down laps (and early pad replacement) are essential to prolong the life of the discs

3) 3-5 track days over annum is probably considered fairly 'light' track use, so the discs would not be unduly stressed and the increased costs would be small

I specced mine (gt3, not Rs) without, the reason being after a fair amount of track time I prefer the costs of steel disc's to the carbons.

I probably will never find out but that was my decision maker.

No issue at all. 3-5 track days are considered light if at all.

Anyone know how much unsprung weight is being saved by having PCCB'S ?

I can't reply from the point of view of track use as I haven't tracked mine yet. However for daily driver use they take a bit of getting used to. The response of the PCCBs when cold is different to steels as they need to be warmed up. This means on a cold day you could have been driving for hours and barely touched the brakes. Then when you need them they can feel disconcertingly sluggish. When they are warmed up they are very impressive.

Rob, from this thread .....

http://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3/768406-pccb-or-...

Since the front PCCB rotors are bigger than the steel rotors to begin with on the 991 GT3, the weight difference will be less. 911rox did some numbers in another thread and figured that the difference is more like 6-7 LBS at each front corner, which is where I expect you'd feel the weight most.
