Had a friend visiting for the weekend, and her car (a 2006 Astra) was broken into sometime overnight. From the damage to the window frame, it looks like a screwdriver - or something similar - was pushed up between the frame and the glass and then levered to smash the glass.

As far as she can tell, the only thing missing appears to the be wallet with the owners manual and service history. I can imagine what that might be useful for, but it still seems a bit odd...

Was there anything else of any value in the car? People will take anything, especially if frustrated by the lack of anything more substantial.

True story:

I used to work with a guy who had his car broken into and the only thing that was stolen was his "Magic tree" air freshener that was hanging from his rear view mirror!

He said: "There were a load of tapes in the car..." (Tapes! - That shows you how long ago this was! Remember how we all used to have 50 tapes stashed around the car!), ".....and none of them were even touched!"

To which I replied: "You must have some crap taste in music if they didn't want to steal the tapes!"

(Someone please explain to the kids on here what tapes are! hehe )

In my wallet with the car manuals I always keep £100 in cash for emergencies just in case so may review this.

Service history,V5,insurance etc are kept in the house.

Had a large jar of coffee on the back seat of my Manta years back parked outside the gf's house, came out in the morning to go to work and thought it was a bit chilly in the car, scrotes had smashed the rear quarter light and made off with the coffee, real pisser is I have never drunk the stuff, it was for a mate at work.

coffee is apparently one of the top targets for shop lifting - and looking at the price of it compared to tea you can see why

Oddly enough, i had mine taken as well when i had my car broken into. They dumped it around the corner.

I suspect in a rush it looks like a portable DVD player? Ipad? laptop folder? etc..

They did not however take my passport, drivers license, valuable (and priceless to me) childhood antiques which i stupidly left in the boot overnight becuase i got home late and was to lazy to remove it.

Years ago a friend had his entire CD collection stolen from his car except for one; a Tom Jones collection. Hundred of loose CDs taken and poor Tom was the only one that they left behind. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't been there.

Hire car in Barcelona was broken into a few years ago, 2 things were taken, a cd walkman from the boot and a half eaten sandwich from the door bin.

About twelve years ago my dad's Mk1 Micra was broken into, with whoever it was pulling the drivers window frame open in order to lift the door lock and open the door. That it was broken into was easy to tell, what they had taken not so. It wasn't until after my dad had gotten to work in it that he realised the lid to the under-dash fuse box was in the footwell, and upon inspection the thief had taken a single fuse from the box. I can't remember which one it was, but it was for a non-critical system as the car drove perfectly well.

My dad said he'd seen someone viewing a house a couple of doors down that had the same car that was eyeing the Micra from a distance, so he reckons this chap broke in one evening and stole the fuse as his was blown.

No idea what really happened, how odd to just nick a fuse though!

Back in the 80s someone stole the rubber seal from around the rear window of my dad's Sierra estate. They left the intact glass carefully inside the back of the car!

many years ago I had my windscreen stolen....tax disc and rear mirror attached. Raining that night and cars fuse box was under the glove box so some weird electrical faults for a few weeks while it dried out...wipers coming on when braking springs to mind.

Sorry about the damage. Suppose that will put their premiums up.

Years ago I got a CB radio taken out of the car. They carefully removed it by unbolting and slowly feeding the coax through instead of cutting it, even disconnected all the wires as well, must have took ages. They did not even damage the door by opening it.
